The town of Hobbs, New Mexico, is home to the Zia Rvillas RV Resort. Khalid Farooq is the current owner of the property, which is open year-round to guests. The months of September to October tend to be the busiest for the business due to horse races held at the local Black Gold Casino & Zia Park Race Track. Other attractions near the resort include Rockwind Park Golf Course, softball and baseball tournaments, and activities hosted at the local event center. Those who stay at the resort are able to choose from the 106 RV sites available for reservations. Each of the accommodations is equipped with water, sewer, and electric hookups that offer either 30- or 50-amp capabilities. Common areas at the resort include a pool, grass areas, and a clubhouse, which features a kitchen, a game area, a laundromat, and bathrooms. The manager, Jaime, reports that the property is known among visitors for its safety and “nice environment.”
Zia Rvillas RV Resort, located in Hobbs, New Mexico, has 106 RV sites available for guest reservations. The first half of the park provides internet and cable, while the other half can add these hookups to preexisting connections that were added when the establishment was first constructed. Throughout the park, there are picnic tables patrons can use. Visitors also have access to a clubhouse that has a pool table, foosball table, kitchen, multiple sitting areas, restrooms, and a laundromat with coin-operated machines. On the grounds of the property, there is a swimming pool and grass areas. The pool offers seating around the water, giving guests the option to sit in the sun, among other uses. Patrons can also take walks around the premises or watch the sunset over the desert landscape.
As previously mentioned, the RV park is located in Hobbs, two miles away from the local casino and various restaurants in the downtown area. In an attempt to prevent multiple trips into town for guests, Jaime, the manager, says they sell propane to patrons on the property. The resort's website states that the RV park is a place where visitors to the area can "relax and use it as a home base while you explore the surrounding area." In regard to the desert, the Zia Rvillas RV Resort is located amongst the Llano Estacado.
When guests stay at the Zia Rvillas RV Resort, the management tries to focus on creating a family atmosphere for all who come to the property. The resort's website says that the RV park is meant for "families and groups." Jaime, the manager, remarks that she “tries to keep communication open with everyone staying in the park,” even when she is not on the premises. “It’s a very safe park,” remarks the resort manager. The property has installed cameras throughout the premises with the goal of creating a safe environment. Jaime explains that their business is often known for its safety and “nice environment.” Those who have previously stayed at the resort have left reviews commenting on their experience while staying at the Zia Rvillas RV Resort. One such review left by a patron said, “Nice clean place to stay, [with] friendly staff. Sites are nice, fairly level, and easy to use.” Another review said, “Very friendly people around here keep the place clean.”
There are a few policies established at the Zia Rvillas RV Resort that guests are expected to follow during their stay. One such policy is that patrons must take responsibility for any pets that accompany them on their stay by keeping them leashed when outside the RVs and cleaning up after them. Moreover, smoking is prohibited inside the clubhouse. Concerning a designated quiet time, visitors must keep noise to a minimum starting at 8:00 p.m. until 7:00 in the morning.
Zia Rvillas RV Resort is open year-round to visitors. People are often drawn to the resort between September and October to attend local horse races held at the Black Gold Casino & Zia Park Race Track. Those who come to stay at the resort tend to be those working in the area.
Aside from the casino and horse racing, other attractions include softball and baseball tournaments, Rockwind Park Golf Course, and various activities at the local event center. The nearby city of Lovington, about 15 miles from the resort, also hosts a rodeo popular among guests. According to the property’s website, the business is “located close to many sightseeing locations and activities.” Restaurants in the general area that Jaime recommends to those visiting the area are the Via Black Gold Steakhouse, which can be found in the previously mentioned casino, and a local sports bar down the road from the park, known as the Babe’s Sports Page Bar & Grill.
According to the manager, Jaime, the Zia Rvillas RV Resort was the first RV park to be established in the town of Hobbs, New Mexico. The RV park has been around for about 20 years since it was first originally opened by Trey and Janelle Rice, the original owners. Eventually, the business was sold to Khalid Farooq, the current owner of the Zia Rvillas RV Resort. During the change of ownership, Jaime Turrabiatees started working at the resort as the manager. Since her time there, Jaime has come to “enjoy the people” and continues to report that “good people” come to the property.
Since opening, the resort has seen various renovations, such as painting the clubhouse, adding more RV sites, and replacing the washer and dryers in the laundromat. Future plans for the Zia Rvillas RV Resort include renovating the bathrooms in the clubhouse.
