Winthrop Mountain View Chalets is located in Winthrop, Washington. Winthrop is a small community in the Okanogan County, seen as an access point to the North Cascades National Park. One staple of the Winthrop Mountain View Chalets is that there is an emphasis on privacy. For that reason, all six of the cabins are separate from each other and have enough distance between them to offer an adequate amount of peace. The cabins range in quality, depending on how much customers are wanting to spend and what they would like or need on their vacation. Most of them are described as deluxe cabins while two of them are described as standard cabins.
Winthrop Mountain View Chalets sits on the outskirts of Winthrop, Washington on 1.5 acres of property. Trees surround the area, with six cabins being provided by the owner. Each cabin is uniquely designed, providing ample amounts of space for guests.
The first cabin has hand-finished pine walls, alongside heated tiles in the entry and bathroom. A queen bed in the cabin sleeps two, with a roll-away option for an additional guest. Additional guest rates are $10 a night. There is a kitchenette in the first cabin, as well as the other five, that comes with a refrigerator, coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave and dishes. A separate freezer is located in the first cabin only, providing additional access to food storage for long-term patrons. Amenities for the room include complimentary wireless internet, flat screen TV with DirectTV, air conditioning, electric heat and coffee. The bathroom in the cabin includes a hairdryer, linens, towels and quality bath products.
The second cabin includes similar layouts and amenities to the first cabin, including a sitting area, a small table with stools and a private deck. The third cabin includes an induction cooktop with its amenities. An induction cooktop produces instantaneous adjustments in heating due to the direct induction heating of cooking vessels, rather than relying on indirect radiation. The fourth cabin provides a twin-sized fold out couch, providing access to an additional guest in the cabin.
Another cabin, the fifth cabin, provides a fireplace near the sitting area, serving as a relaxation method for the guests. The final cabin, the sixth cabin, is the only pet-friendly cabin on-site.
The quiet atmosphere is listed a unique factor to the property, as mentioned by owner Susan Otonicar. Winthrop—the city Winthrop Mountain View Chalets is located in—is a small town, with the population sitting at 451 as of 2018. An access point to the North Cascades National Park is located in the town limits, providing all-day access to the amenities provided by the park.
Winthrop Mountain View Chalets strives for a culture of seclusion by providing six cabins that are distanced from each other. Susan Otonicar, the owner, stated that "we provide the tourists an opportunity to truly be by themselves, with no interactions from other guests or the owners. This provides them a much needed break from real life."
Guests of the property mention the quality of service provided by the owner, mentioning the "they will assist you, even without a reservation. They just want to make sure you are properly taken care of." Each cabin is situated fifteen to twenty feet apart from one another, depending on the cabin. By separating the cabins, Winthrop Mountain View Chalets states that it "makes their guests more comfortable than sharing the same home, similar to how it is ran at a bed and breakfast. The idea behind this is to promote that we are not a bed and breakfast; you will be provided with your own cabin for you and your loved one."
The city of Winthrop, Washington offers American Old West designed buildings, providing a tourist experience to the visitors of the local area. Located in Winthrop is "Three Fingered Jack's Saloon," Washington's oldest legal saloon. Three Fingered Jack's Saloon contains western swinging doors, with food and TV for consumers to utilize. The North Cascades National Park is located to the west of Winthrop, seen as one of the access points. The North Cascades National Park is a 500,000-acre forest that provides various mountain ranges, glaciers and waterways to its travelers.
Winthrop Mountain View Chalets has been in the lodging industry for 17 years, first dating back to 2003. Owner Susan Otonicar purchased a six-bedroom farm house in the late 90's, originally running it as a bed and breakfast. Through this experience, Susan mentions she learned that bed and breakfast's "weren't her thing." She began looking for new opportunities to venture into, and purchased the six cabins near her property, creating Winthrop Mountain View Chalets in 2003. The cabins were impulsively purchased, with Susan stating that she was "eager to try something new, in hopes that it would provide her better service and purpose into her work lifestyle." The farm house is still for rent by guests, however, the cabins are seen as the "focal point" by Susan Ontonciar, who is planning on transitioning to cabin rentals only.
