West Bound RV Park

West Bound RV Park, currently under the ownership of Brighter Door, is located in southern Texas near the city of San Antonio. Visitors can reserve a long-term or short-term stay in one of the park's 38 RV sites, which are available for guests to occupy year-round. The property's proximity to San Antonio and the Frio River tends to pique the interest of those who are seeking nearby attractions, shops, and opportunities for outdoor recreation. The manager encourages visitors to tour these places by giving them suggestions of specific attractions and restaurants that they might enjoy. With the goal of helping everyone feel welcome at West Bound RV Park, the manager tries to be available for those staying at the property to contact her should they have any questions or concerns during their stay.

About

Situated in the heart of D'Hanis, Texas, West Bound RV Park comprises a total of 38 RV sites. Full hookups are supplied at each site, offering 20-, 30-, and 50-amp connections. Every RV space is also equipped with a pad to park their vehicle as well as a picnic table. While the pads vary in size, the majority extend to approximately 20 by 55 feet. The layout of most of the sites is gravel; however, the manager of the property mentions that some spaces have a small grass area instead.

In addition to the 38 RV sites, the park has a laundry facility that contains coin-operated machines. A dump station is additionally provided for patrons' convenience, and it should also be noted that everyone staying at West Bound RV Park is given access to WiFi over the course of their stay. Generally speaking, the grounds are fairly open, composed of a fair amount of trees. The location of the park is relatively rural, with a few small businesses and residences in the vicinity. Visitors are often drawn to the area's natural surroundings to engage in outdoor recreation. One of the more common pastimes is hunting, as observed by the manager of West Bound RV Park. The manager also reports that the Frio River is one particular site that hunters frequent to pursue deer and ducks.

Beyond the town of D'Hanis, the manager mentions that San Antonio—a fairly prominent city in Texas, located about a 40-minute drive from the park—tends to receive a considerable number of tourists. A wide variety of shops, restaurants, and attractions are established throughout San Antonio, which guests can tour during their stay at West Bound RV Park. In terms of nearby dining options, the manager recommends visiting Cowboy's Restaurant, Hermann Sons Steak House, and El Restaurante Azteca.

Culture

The manager of West Bound RV Park believes that the property is known for "friendly management and quality service." Her aim is to provide visitors with an experience that allows them to feel "like it's home" at the RV park. "We hope that it communicates over to [our guests] that the management is friendly, open to suggestions and that we want them to be there," the manager remarks. With the intent to reach this goal, the manager makes an effort to be available for patrons 24/7 via phone "to talk to them and help them feel welcomed and loved." She notes that interaction between her and those who stay at West Bound RV Park happens frequently. One person who previously stayed at the property left the following review of their experience: "The staff is friendly and helpful, the sites are clean and well-maintained, and I have really appreciated the on-site amenities, such as the laundry facilities and Wi-Fi." The manager believes that "the connections that [they] make with people sets [them] apart from other RV parks."

A few policies are enforced, which everyone is expected to abide by over the course of their stay. While the park is a pet-friendly establishment, dogs that exhibit aggressive or hostile behavior toward anyone are restricted from staying on-site. Those who bring a pet with them must take the sole responsibility of cleaning up after them and keeping them leashed at all times. Furthermore, quiet hours are implemented every night, starting at 10:00 p.m. and lasting until 8:00 a.m. With regard to smoking, visitors are welcome to do so on the premises; however, smoking is not permitted inside any of the buildings, such as the laundry facility. Lastly, everyone must abide by the five-mile-per-hour speed limit when they are driving in the park.

West Bound RV Park is open year-round for patrons to reserve any of the RV sites. The summer and fall seasons tend to be the busiest times of operation for the establishment, which the manager attributes to the duck and deer hunting locations as well as recreation on the Frio River. Couples and single travelers primarily constitute the demographic of those who stay at West Bound RV Park, though the manager also mentions that they receive several local employees who are staying at the park long-term for their jobs.

History

Brighter Door, the company that presently owns West Bound RV Park, purchased the property in June 2022. Two other lodging properties in southern Texas—Quiet Texas RV Park and Red Oak RV Park—are under the ownership of Brighter Door as well. Concerning the changes that were made to West Bound during Brighter Door's ownership, most of the updates have been physical improvements to the landscaping and "clearing up communication issues with the turnover," as mentioned by the manager. There were also a few sites that were added, intending to accommodate more visitors. As for future plans, the owners are hoping to expand the property.

The manager of West Bound RV Park was first led to the park when she began working in the landscaping industry for Brighter Door. She moved into one of the on-site houses at Quiet Texas and began to manage that location, eventually branching out to West Bound RV Park. Since becoming the manager, she has come to find that her favorite part of the job is "meeting all of the people" who stay at the RV park. She also enjoys working with the owners as she describes them as "friendly, community-oriented people."
