The Canyonlands RV Resort and Campground is situated in Moab, Utah. There are 131 units that guests can rent, consisting of eight cabins, 32 tent sites, and 91 RV sites. The RV sites are all pull-through spaces and have full hookups. Unique to the property is a relatively large number of trees that provide shade and a creek that runs through it. Some of the other amenities the resort offers include a pool, free use of the shower facilities, and a dog park. The property’s location in the city of Moab means that it is convenient to many of the city’s restaurants and stores. According to the resort’s manager, many people will travel to the Moab area to explore the two national parks near the property, Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, in addition to hiking, rafting on the Colorado River, and observing geologic formations.
Located in the southern portion of Moab, Utah, is the Canyonlands RV Resort and Campground. The property is unique in that it is the only RV park in the city. Many trees throughout the park offer shade to guests during the warmer months of the year. Guests can also spend time enjoying Pack Creek, a creek that runs through the park. Due to its location in downtown Moab, the park is within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. The manager of the resort recommends that guests try Moab Brewery and Canyon Pizza Co. during their stay at the park.
For guests seeking to reserve a space at the RV park, there are a total of 131 units available. Of those units, eight are camping cabins, 32 are tent sites, and 91 are RV sites. All of the camping cabins are identical in amenities that are offered, with a screened-in porch, mini-fridge, bunk beds, and a small television. There are three different types of tent sites that are offered, namely the Deluxe, Rustic, and Front options. The main difference between each option is primarily its location around the property. The Deluxe tent sites also have a canopy that guests can use, and every place has a personal firepit and picnic table. All of the RV sites also have a picnic table next to the RV's space and have either full 30 or 50 amp hookups. Every RV space is pull-through.
There are a variety of amenities that guests can access on the property throughout their stay. At the front of the property, visitors will find a gas station that is owned by the RV park. This station also has a convenience store with the park’s laundry facilities and one of the bathhouses connected to it. The laundry machines are coin-operated; however, the bathhouses are free for guests. The shower facilities are open to the public, but there is a $6 fee that is required for them to be used. At the center of the property is another shower facility. Guests who may be looking for something to do can enjoy the park’s pool, horseshoe pits, and playground for those with small children. Should any patrons have dogs, there is a dog park where they can let their dogs off their leash.
The property will occasionally host events, most often hosting charity food drives once or twice a year. According to the manager, many people will stay at the resort for the Easter Jeep Safari. This event is put on in Moab and occurs every year around Easter, as the name implies. Visitors will bring a variety of off-road vehicles to the area to ride around on the Jeep trails in the region surrounding Moab, and to inspect each other’s vehicles. The manager also says that most of the people who visit Moab will come for “adrenaline rushes” and to explore the two national parks that are in close proximity to the city.
Both Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park offer many different experiences for those seeking outdoor activities. Arches National Park is home to the famous Delicate Arch as well as a host of other natural formations, such as the Petrified Dunes, Double Arch, and Fiery Furnace, to name a few. At Canyonlands National Park, visitors can find trails for hiking or mountain biking, scenic lookouts where guests can enjoy the landscape, and rafting on the Colorado River. Some businesses in Moab also offer skydiving or hot air ballooning opportunities should they desire to participate in such activities.
When asked how they want guests to feel when they stay at the Canyonlands RV Resort, the manager says that they want the patrons to feel like they can relax at their sites after spending their days exploring the surrounding national parks. The staff at the property tries to accommodate as much as possible when guests bring issues to their attention and will interact with guests as they see them. A wide variety of guests will often stay at the park, from families and older couples to travelers from other countries such as Germany or Denmark. When visitors have questions about what they should do while in Moab, the staff is happy to help provide suggestions for activities to do or places to visit.
Guests who have stayed at the resort have left many positive reviews about the property. They will often mention how they appreciated the pool, the trees that provided shade, and the shower facilities. One guest said, “The showers were clean and warm. It was right by downtown Moab and quite convenient to get to either national park.” Other guests have noted the park's low amount of road noise despite being next to the main road, saying, “You wouldn’t know you were just off the main drag because it is quiet.”
The Canyonlands RV Resort and Campground has been operating as an RV park since the 1970s. It became incorporated in 2012 and was purchased by its current owner, Sun Communities, in 2018. The current manager of the property says that they believe that being attached to a corporation has helped the park become more popular than it was before Sun Communities incorporated it. When asked about what they enjoy about the job, the manager said that they like how the resort is “the only RV campground that is located downtown.”
