Royal Mountain Campground

Royal Mountain Campground can be found in Johnstown, New York, with a total of 50 sites open both seasonally and year-round, depending on how long guests would like to stay. Royal Mountain Campground is surrounded by tall pine trees as well as various lakes and ponds that are part of state-owned property like Rockwood State Forest, Shaker Mountain Wild Forest, and Adirondack State Park. Less than 4 miles away, about a 5-minute drive from the property, visitors can find the Royal Mountain Ski Area, where customers can ski the various slopes that range from easy to more challenging hills.

About

Royal Mountain Campground owns 50-acres of land, with the campsites taking up only a small portion of it. Of the 50 campsites, 30 of them are seasonal RV sites, and there are three tent sites, two cabins, and two small cabins. Visitors are able to rent one of the two campers that are owned by the campground if they don't have a camper of their own to bring. The small cabins and several other sites are available for rent year-round, while the rest are only available from the months of May to October. For those who are looking to rent for a more extended period of time, Royal Mountain Campground allows guests to rent them on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. The RV sites come with water and electrical stations that visitors can hook up to their RVs.

On the property is an ice cream store called Granny's Ice Cream, where guests can purchase frozen treats and other snack foods. Other amenities include bathrooms and showers, a propane station, Wi-Fi, badminton, and horseshoes. A few other things that can be found on the property that visitors may use include restrooms and showers, a propane station, wireless internet, a volleyball court, badminton, horseshoes, and a pond that is stocked with fish.

Within the area, there are a number of state parks and forests. East of Royal Mountain Campground, one can find the Rockwood State Forest, and to the northwest, visitors can find Lassellsville State Forest and Adirondack State Park. These parks and forests give guests the opportunity to take part in some outdoor activities such as hiking, ATVing, and more. According to the owners, there are around 44 total lakes in the surrounding area for guests to use, which allows for activities like fishing, boating, kayaking, among other things. For those who are staying during the wintertime, guests can find The Royal Mountain Ski Area, which has been noted for being a desirable resort for skiers and snowboarders to take to the slopes.

Culture

One thing that Royal Mountain is known for is its ice cream store, which was put into place and built by the current owners—Todd and Sarah Cleveland—who took over the business just under five years ago. Sarah states that Rocky Mountain Campgrounds gives consumers an "Adirondack feel" and says that they try to create an atmosphere that is both relaxing and enjoyable.

Guests that have been to the establishment in the past have left a number of reviews. One review reads, "The camp was quiet, well maintained, the bathroom/shower house was clean." Another person that recently stayed there says, "Great campsite, with the best ice cream, stand in the area at the entrance to the site. Quiet place with lots of shade. Management is always hard at work on site, making sure everything goes smoothly." Though the campgrounds haven't been around for more than five years, the grounds have been with the Cleveland family, first with Todd's parents, and now with Todd.

History

Royal Mountain Campground is owned by the Cleveland Family, who has been owning the property as a family business since it first opened its doors about four years ago. Todd and Sarah Cleveland purchased the land from Todd's parents in 2017 and have owned the campground since. Todd has been fixing up the campsite since they took ownership, adding in the highly-requested ice cream shop shortly after obtaining the land. Royal Mountain Campground was built from the ground up, having been in poorer shape when the original owners first purchased the land. Ever since the Cleveland family purchased the grounds, they have dedicated their time to fixing up the campground and passing it on to their son Todd, who continues to renovate and improve it to the best of his ability.
