Rockaway RV Park is located in Burnet, Texas, which is found along the Colorado River within close proximity of Buchanan Lake. The establishment has 22 RV sites that are open throughout the year. A boat launch is available for people to use as well, provided that they bring their own boats. Patrons also have the option of renting kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards from Rockaway RV Park if they don’t have any of their own. Boating and fishing are two everyday activities that can be done in the lake and river. Annette and Mike, the camp hosts, would like their visitors to be comfortable and enjoy their time at the RV park. They had been campers at this campground for over 20 years before becoming the camp hosts and helping the owners.
Rockaway RV Park has a total of 22 RV spaces available for reservations. Each of the units comes with a grassy area and a picnic table. According to Annette, one of the camp hosts of the business, the RV sites are all uniform and similar in design, with the exception of one, which is called the Palm Tree Site. One aspect that makes this unit more sought after than the others is that it has a concrete pad.
There are a few common areas that patrons have access to during their stay at the RV park. The main office has air conditioning and two bathhouses, one for men and one for women. A laundry room with two washers and two dryers is also available for guest use. People can spend time in an indoor space where they can play games and do puzzles. Outside is a patio and a concrete court with a basketball hoop. One particularly unique element of the property is that the business owns a boat launch, which is available for visitors to launch watercrafts such as kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. If visitors don’t have any of these, they can be rented from Rockaway RV Park for an additional fee. Also located near the edge of the water is a grassy area with a seawall that allows guests to fish in the water.
There are several attractions that patrons may be interested in visiting. The Ink Lake Fish Hatchery provides information about some of the fish that can be found in the lake. Another noteworthy site is Longhorn Cavern, located in the town of Catherine. Longhorn Cavern provides tours of the caves for those who find enjoyment in exploring some of the natural areas of the region. Enchanted Rock draws a considerable number of tourists as well. Also in the area, there are a variety of restaurants that visitors can find. The camp hosts enjoy pointing out some of the places that they frequent and they often mention a few by name to those looking for recommendations. One location called Reverend Jim’s Dam Pub sells various meat products such as burgers, shrimp, and chicken and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Another restaurant that is located nearby and is named after the dam is called The Dam Grill. Crazy Gal’s Café is one other suggestion of dining options that the camp hosts recommend, located south of the property. This location serves breakfast and lunch items.
Annette, one of the camp hosts, would like her guests to feel comfortable while they are spending time at Rockaway RV Park. In an effort to create this environment, she and her husband, Mike, try to visit patrons in the evening to make sure everything is functioning correctly and answer any questions that they may have.
The business has four major events throughout the year involving the RV park guests. An Easter celebration takes place in April for children to participate in an Easter egg hunt as well as a visit from the Easter Bunny. The establishment hosts a street party for the Fourth of July, typically involving food vendors and live music. Moreover, patrons can participate in an RV decorating competition and a chili cook-off during Halloween. Finally, the campground hosts a Christmas party called The Lighting of the Bridge on the first weekend of December. Working in conjunction with the city, a boat parade is arranged on the lake, the bridge is lit with Christmas lights, and fireworks are set off during these festivities. Afterward, Rockaway RV Park cooks hamburgers, hot dogs, or something similar for their guests. Throughout the year, there may also be smaller events and celebrations, such as a movie in the park.
Rockaway RV Park has received many reviews from visitors who have stayed in the past. A few things that they mention include the camp hosts, the events, and the amenities that are offered. One person wrote, “Lots of shade, great views of the lake, and every spot is right on the water. The hosts, Mike and Annette, are awesome. They go above and beyond to help make your stay great.” The property is open year-round, with the busiest season of operation usually being in the summer. With regard to the demographic of guests, people who most commonly visit the campground are supposedly outdoor enthusiasts and people who bring their boats. The business often has repeat patrons, and, according to Annette, there are some people who have been coming back to Rockaway RV Park for over 30 years.
Rockaway RV Park is a privately owned establishment that has been passed down to three different owners. The current camp hosts, Annette and her husband, Mike, have been a part of the business since 2021. However, Annette explains that they had been camping at Rockaway RV Park for more than 20 years before they purchased the property. It was this association with the campground that led them into the lodging industry. Annette notes that one of her favorite aspects of being the camp host is meeting the people who stay at the RV park, as she says, “I love getting to know them and hearing stories about their families.”
There have been a variety of changes made to the campground since the current owners purchased the establishment. Annette remarks that there used to be a floating restaurant on the lake that they would visit when she and her husband were guests at the RV park, but it was eventually torn down due to years of flooding. The seawall, also known as the greenbelt, is an addition that was made to the lake in an effort to maintain a balance between the water level and the grounds. In the future, the owners and camp hosts would like to update the bathhouses. Another plan involves the addition of a cabin and a pickleball court.
