River’s Edge Family Campground is located in Bayboro, North Carolina. With a total of 92 RV spaces, guests can reserve any of these unoccupied spaces at any time of the year. The RV sites come with full hookups. The office building has a small laundromat available for patrons to use, as well as showers, restrooms, and an ice machine. Bay River flows along the edge of the property, and visitors can take advantage of the Bay River for boating, wakeboarding, kayaking, and fishing. Guests can also fish off of one of the two piers on the river. Ed Perry, the owner, would like his patrons to feel comfortable at the campground. He mentions that it is not considered a “party park” and enforces a quiet hours policy at 10:00 p.m. each night. River’s Edge Family Campground is pet-friendly, provided that the dogs are supervised, and their owners clean up after them. Ed and his wife, Maria, became the owners in 2019 and have previously owned another campground. They plan on adding more RV spaces in the future.
River’s Edge Family Campground has a total of 92 RV units available for guests to reserve. The RV sites come with full hookups, including water, electricity, and sewage. According to the owner, Ed Perry, “it can cover everything.” Each RV unit also has a concrete patio and picnic table.
There are several amenities that patrons have access to during their stay at River’s Edge Family Campground. The business has a dog park where dogs can be let off their leash and run around freely. A few fire pits are provided as well, and the owner encourages guests to be careful when using them. Ed mentions that the sites near the Bay River's edge tend to be the more popular units. People also have access to the office building, which doubles as a laundromat. The office has books, games, restrooms with showers, and an ice machine. It should be noted that the washer and dryer are available. On the river, there are two piers, and according to the owner, one is roughly 300 feet, and the other is about 100 feet in length. Guests can fish off the pier and catch things such as trout, red drum, flounder, and blue crabs.
River’s Edge Family Campground is located in a more rural area. The establishment is found on the edge of the Bay River. According to Ed, the river “is one of the cleanest rivers in eastern North Carolina.” Due to the close proximity to the river, guests can participate in activities such as kayaking, tubing, boating, wakeboarding, fishing, and swimming. A pavilion can be found on the river's edge with seating, a small sandy beach, and a grassy area. The surroundings are mostly wooded and undeveloped land.
The "historic" town of New Bern, North Carolina, the former colonial capital, is about a 25-minute drive west of River's Edge Campground. There are several beaches that are nearby. Approximately 45 minutes from the campground, guests can find North Carolina's Crystal Coast, where they can find the North Carolina Aquarium and Fort Macon State Park. Various towns in the vicinity have many historic locations as well. Ed enjoys sharing some of his favorite restaurants with patrons and often mentions a few by name, including Morgan's Tavern and Grill, Brantley’s Village, Mayo's Seafood, Charlie’s Restaurant, Gary’s Down East Seafood,
Ed, the owner of River’s Edge Family Campground, would like his patrons to have an enjoyable time. He wants to create a “super friendly and super casual” atmosphere. One thing Ed notes is that the campground is not a “party park,” and while people are allowed to drink casually, the park does not let guests get rowdy. In an effort to create his desired atmosphere, Ed explains that he and his wife will feed everybody in the park for three major North American holidays during the summer. These three holidays are Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day. They also occasionally host Luaus with Hawaiian-themed music and food. A few more minor events that the business holds throughout the year include activities such as golf cart parades.
The campground has several policies that guests are expected to abide by. Dogs are allowed on the property, but the owner asks that people clean up after their animals and supervise them at all times. Smoking is prohibited inside the buildings, but Ed has no problem with people doing it outside. Quiet time begins every night at 10:00 p.m.
There have been many people who have stayed at River’s Edge Family Campground, and a few of them have left reviews of their experience. Someone who recently spent time at the business wrote, “The folks who are staying in the park and the ones who live here are so friendly and helpful. We have met some really nice people, and the view of the river while sitting in a rocking chair under the pavilion is incredible.” The campground is open year-round, and the best season of operation tends to occur between the months of May and October. The typical demographic of patrons who spend time at the property are usually people over the age of 45. Ed mentions that he also sees many businessmen and fishermen who arrive to enjoy the quieter landscape and the outdoor recreational activities.
The property was initially owned by Wake Forest University and didn’t have any established business or amenities on it. In 2000, the university decided to sell the acreage, which the owner, Ed, deduced was to raise funds for the school. Ed explains that Mr. White and his son, Greg White, became the new owners but they did not do much with the land until a couple of years after they acquired it. Mr. White and his son created swimming pools for their business, and one day, they were hired to build a pool in a campground. He and his son installed the pool, and it gave Mr. White an idea. Ed remarks, “Frankie walked away that afternoon and told his son, ‘That’s what we’re gonna do with that land.’” They turned the property into a campground and rented their first lot in 2003. The current owner purchased the business from them in 2019.
Ed runs River’s Edge Family Campground with his wife, Maria. Previously, Ed and Maria owned a different campground, but they sold it when Ed got sick. After he recovered, they decided to reenter the camping industry. They both enjoy meeting people and spending time with visitors and encourage guests to speak with them if they have any questions or concerns.
Since they became the owners of River’s Edge Family Campground, they have made several changes and additions to the property, though the most significant difference is that they have added more RV spaces. According to the owner, they are currently in the process of obtaining another permit to add more boat slips, hoping to add another dozen or so spaces for guests to use while they are staying at River’s Edge Family Campground. In the future, the owner, Ed, also plans on adding about 20 more RV spaces for patrons to choose from.
