Red Oak RV Park accommodates long-term stays but also offers transient sites, although the manager of the property remarks that the park is especially popular for those seeking long-term rentals. While the park itself does not provide extensive activities, it serves as “a landing pad for people to come and then explore the surrounding area,” explains the manager. The park is located within the city limits of Hondo, offering access to the downtown area.

One of the park's focuses is on providing a comfortable and convenient environment for RV travelers. It caters to guests who prefer a simpler and more independent camping experience. The manager explains that the park is smaller in size compared to other properties.

Culture

Red Oak RV Park aims to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for its guests. The primary goal is to make guests “feel at home and welcomed,” states the manager of the RV Park. Long-term stays are encouraged by the establishment, although short-term options are also available. The management's key objectives for the park are to attract long-term rentals while maintaining a welcoming environment. They prioritize creating a friendly community where guests feel appreciated and comfortable during their stay. According to the manager, the Red Oak RV Park is said to have "friendly and helpful management," as mentioned in guest reviews. One review left by a patron reads, "Red Oak is under new management and they are the sweetest, most helpful people. They have also done multiple updates to the property." The management focuses on creating this environment by striving to provide good communication and responsiveness to address any guest concerns promptly. They aim to establish a friendly and accommodating atmosphere, creating a sense of community within the park.

While the park currently does not host events or activities, it focuses on implementing policies that ensure a comfortable experience for all guests. These policies include a maximum speed limit of five miles per hour, requiring pets to be on a leash at all times, and prohibiting larger aggressive dog breeds. Smoking is permitted, but guests are expected to clean up after themselves.

Red Oak RV Park operates year-round, with the summer season being particularly popular due to its proximity to travel destinations. The park welcomes a diverse demographic of guests, including working professionals, retirees, and families. Red Oaks' atmosphere and location in town are considered by the manager to be one of the main draws to the establishment. Regarding nearby dining options, the manager recommends Hermann Sons Steak House, known for its burgers and steaks. El Restaurante Azteca offers Mexican cuisine, while Silvercreek serves sandwiches and coffee. Guests frequently visit attractions in the surrounding area, such as the South Texas Maze in Hondo during the fall and the Frio River for boating, fishing, and recreational activities in the summer. Bass and trout are common catches when fishing in the Frio River, according to the manager. Baffin Bay is recommended by the manager for saltwater fishing. The area is also known for dove hunting in the fall.

History

Red Oak RV Park’s manager reports that the park has a history that dates back for “quite a while,” but it was recently purchased by the current owners, Brighter Doors, in March of 2023. The current manager of Red Oaks RV Park previously worked for the Brighter Doors landscaping company. However, her decision to enter the lodging industry and manage the RV park instead was influenced by the opportunity “to meet new people, and to talk and interact with them.”

Since Brighter Doors took over the property, several changes and improvements have been made. Two new spaces are being added to accommodate more guests, and the road throughout the park has been improved with additional gravel. The previous condition of the park included potholes and inadequate maintenance, which has been addressed and rectified, reports the manager. Another change made to Red Oak RV Park is the addition of WiFi services for the convenience of guests. The owners have plans to continue maintaining and updating the property in the future. Keeping the park in good condition and ensuring a pleasant experience for visitors is the continued focus of the establishment.

Another change made to the RV Park by the current owners was the name of the business. Previously, it was known as "Ramblin' Wreck RV Park"  but was changed to "Red Oak RV Park." The exact reason behind the name change is not specified, but the manager mentions that it is possible that it was influenced by the presence of numerous red oak trees on the property. These trees are noted to provide shade throughout the park.
