Pleasant Creek Campground

Pleasant Creek Campground can be found east of Vermilianville, which is southeast of Oglesby, Illinois. Pleasant Creek Campground has over 100 sites that have a wide variety of staying conditions, ranging from RV sites, primitive tent sites, and cabins. The campsites are close to many local attractions like Starved Rock Lodge, and guests have the option of visiting one of the nearby companies that can provide sky diving, zip-lining, or racecar driving. Due to the property-owning over 40 acres of land and having a river nearby, there are many activities that are offered regarding both water activities, like river rafting and swimming, and things to do on land, like hiking and horseback riding.

About

Pleasant Creek Campground has around 140 available sites that can be found on a total of 43 acres of land. The campground has six cabins, as well as space to accommodate RVs, trailers, campers, pop-ups, and tents. Several of the sites that guests can use have water and electricity stations, while some of the campsites are primitive, meaning they do not have the ability to hook up to water, electric, or dump stations. Previous guests have said that several sites have stood out above the others for a number of different reasons.

Alcove Way is one site that has been noted due to the fact that it offers areas that can be sunny and shady, as well as it is close to the creek and bathhouse. The Creekside site provides easier access to the stream and is ideal for anyone who wants to spend as much time as possible in the creek. The Glades camp area is surrounded by trees, which creates a naturally fenced-in area. The Highlands site can be found next to the playground, tetherball and is next to an open area of grass. The Oak Grove site is one of the closest sites to the general store, bathhouse, and basketball court. The Outback site is a primitive camping site that can be ideal for larger groups of people. Many of the sites are close to hiking trails, like the trails that can be found at Starved Rock Lodge, north of Pleasant Creek Campground.

Pets are welcome on the campgrounds; however, there is a maximum of two pets allowed per site. The campground tries to maintain a peaceful atmosphere of Pleasant Creek Campground, so they enforce a quiet time policy, which extends from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. For guest's convenience, Pleasant Creek Campground has a general store, which sells things like toys, squirt guns, firewood, camping and outdoor gear, food, personal hygiene items, and more.

Culture

The owner of Pleasant Creek Campground says they do their best to cater to all walks of life. They are an open campground and hope to help anyone who spends time at their establishment to have an enjoyable time during their stay. Specifically, Pleasant Creek Campground strives to create a family-friendly environment. They also seek to create an atmosphere that is quiet, peaceful, and relaxing for visitors. This gives guests the option of relaxing while on the property, as well as spending time doing other activities. There are walking trails, a volleyball and basketball court, tetherball, a playground, and an arcade room, among other things. Throughout the property, one can find several creeks and a fishing pond. There is a catch-and-release policy for those who cast their line out in the pond. In the fishing pond, there is a fountain that lights up at night and can change colors.

There are a number of reviews that are left regarding the property and the atmosphere that is created there. One reviewer said, "Friendly staff, clean bathrooms/showers, and nice campsites are found here.... There is little to no cell service, so it's a plus if you're looking to get away. They are very close to all the nearby parks and it's very clean..." The property does not have any gates around the land, so guests have the freedom of coming in and out at their convenience. The Pleasant Creek Campground aims to help guests enjoy their time, whether it's spent on or off the property. The Matthiessen State Park and Starved Rock State Park are near the campground and have been noted by the owner to be top-rated destinations for hiking trails and waterfalls in the area. Several other activities in the area include zip lining, sky diving, and drive-in movie theaters.

History

The name of the current owner of Pleasant Creek Campground is Joe Canfora. Joe has been the owner for around eight years, starting when he bought the property in about 2013. The park opened sometime between the late 60s and the early 70s and has been a campground for some time. Over time, several attractions and locations have been added to the property. Much of the development to Pleasant Creek Campground has occurred over the last eight years since Joe Canfora took ownership of the property. Joe says that many of the activities that are done on the property tend to involve the outdoors, so he encourages others to spend time doing things outside. Several of these include horseback riding, golfing, and even racecar driving.
