The Pine Ridge Campground is located in Roebuck, South Caroline, near I-26 and I-85. The campground has over fifty-five campsites, including three cabin rentals and two tiny house rentals. All RV sites have full hookups with 20, 30, and 50 amp services. There is a fishing pond, children's park, game room, community firepit, and swimming pool on the property for additional activities. Guests are welcome to rent equipment from the main office, such as fishing rods, paddle boats, and golf carts. The small retail store in the office sells boutique-style items as well as camping necessities and RV repair supplies. Pets are allowed in the campground, and there is a small dog park on the property as well. Many events are held at the Pine Ridge Campground during holidays, such as Easter egg hunts, Halloween craft nights, and more. The property is open year-round.
The Pine Ridge Campground is located along I-26 in Roebuck, South Carolina. Just minutes from I-85 and several other main roads, the property is tucked into a section of woods. The campground sits on twenty acres of land and is filled with trees, small creeks, and dense shrubbery. There are fifty-five total sites available for reservation at the Pine Ridge Campground, three of which are rental cabins and two of which are tiny homes. Most of the RV sites on the main property are nightly campgrounds; however, a project called "Phase Two" is in development on an adjoining property to add twenty-nine extended stay sites.
There is a fishing pond, swimming pool, multiple pavilions, group campfire pits, and gathering areas located throughout the property. The fishing pond is one acre large, and guests are welcome to do catch and release fishing. Largemouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, and catfish are examples of species in the pond. Many ducks also live on the pond along with koi fish. It is suggested that guests use live bait when fishing in the pond, and only dogs are allowed to swim in the water. There are many nearby reservoirs and marshes to explore for guests who wish to bring paddle boats or canoes to the area.
Guests visiting during the warmer months of the year can often be found swimming in the large swimming pool in the corner of the property. The pool is twenty-two feet wide and forty-four feet long, with a depth ranging from three to eight feet. There is no lifeguard on duty, so an adult must accompany children under ten. The pool is fenced with multiple covered tables and pool chairs guests can relax in.
The various pavilions and large firepits throughout the property are available to accommodate larger gatherings. Often visitors will gather for meals in a pavilion or sing songs around the community firepit during the evening. In addition to these spaces, there is a large children's playground and a trampoline pad children can play on. Pets are allowed at the Pine Ridge Campground as long as they are leashed and attended, though there is a dog park where pets are free to roam under their owner's supervision.
Each of the campsites at the Pine Ridge Campground has full hookups. They include 20, 30, and 50 amp options, sewer, and water hookups. The majority of the sites are similar in size, with back-in access and a parking pad. The parking pads are either concrete, asphalt, or gravel and include a small strip of grass where guests can set out chairs or leash their animals. All of the campsites also have a fire pit and a picnic table. Oak trees surround each site to provide privacy, and cement pathways lead throughout the property so guests can avoid walking through other visitor's sites.
Another variation in the sites is their proximity to the park, main office, pond, and pool. Additionally, some sites are more shaded than others and have better access to the satellite in the property. Sites number 50, 4, and 1 are the most popular reservations. Site 50 is new with a built-in deck, pull-through concrete pad, bench seating around a gas fire pit, a dining table, and a bench swing. Site 4 is located just feet from the fishing pond and has back-in access with a grill and a private pergola. Site 1 is the most private and secluded of the campsites at the Pine Ridge Campground.
The office space at the Pine Ridge Campground was recently renovated to be used in part as a small store. Inside the store, they sell items such as sweatshirts, mugs, and jewelry, along with basic camping supplies. Some basic RV supplies are also sold at the store, including water and sewer hoses, duck tape, and tools. Additional services involve the ability to rent paddle boats and fishing rods for the pond, or even a golf cart from the main office. Just down a short path from the office is the game room, where a pool table, an air hockey table, checkers, and chess are available to the campground's patrons.
Additional areas guests have access to on the property include a horseshoe pit, the bathhouse, multiple restrooms, and a laundry room. The restrooms are cleaned twice daily, and the bathhouse has counters, mirrors, and floor-to-ceiling doors around each shower space. The laundry room is coin-operated with four washers and four dryers. A covered porch and seating inside the facility give guests an area to sit while waiting for their laundry.
The tiny homes available for reservation at the Pine Ridge Campground each include a small bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. Each home looks out over the water of the pond as well. A porch leads up to the homes, and there is a gas grill available for use. The cabins are similar to the tiny homes with larger living spaces and a small sitting area. Each cabin also has a porch swing.
The current owners of the Pine Ridge Campground are Brad and Cecilia, who run the campground alongside their son Evan. Upon purchasing the campground, the family was inspired to create a one-stop location where guests could be comfortable and feel secluded from the rest of the world, while at the same time have a variety of activities to enjoy during their stay. To do this, they have spent years improving the campsites, adding fish to the fishing pond, upgrading the bathhouses, and expanding the main office. Other upgrades include adding the large playground and dog park, re-fencing the pool, and adding additional RV sites throughout the twenty-acre property.
As a family themselves, Brad, Cecilia, and Evan want their campground to be a family-oriented space where guests can come and go as they please. “We want our grounds to be a place for everyone. We have gone to great lengths in preparing the property for all ages and capabilities,” says Evan. The game room, swimming pool, and community campfire are all areas where guests can gather together and find something to do. Joint sites are also available for guests to reserve when visiting with a friend or family member so they can be close together. “I try to do everything I can to make it possible for guests to be able to enjoy their time together,” remarked Evan.
In adjusting and remodeling the main office, they created a small retail area where guests can purchase camping essentials and supplies necessary for upkeep on campers and RVs. The family also tries to give each potential visitor as much information as possible so they can choose the campsite best suited for their needs. The campsites were strategically placed so guests could have closer access to specific amenities depending on their preferences. Smaller sites for pop-ups and mini RVs are closer to the bathhouse and laundry facilities, while the larger sites are towards the back of the property as most large campers and RVs don’t need as much access to these things.
Rentals for a golf cart, paddle boats, and fishing rods are available in the office. These amenities can add convenience for guests who don’t want to walk throughout the property or want to spend time fishing at the pond. A recent article in the Charlotte Observer states, “This Roebuck campground is hard to ignore as guests have a variety of activities and amenities to enjoy on the property. The owners, Brad and Cecillia, alongside their son Evan, have dedicated themselves to this hidden gem.” The owners try to keep track of why each of their guests are passing through, and what they enjoy doing during their stay.
ADA accessible sites are available as well for guests with special needs or physical restrictions. Pets are allowed and even encouraged at the Pine Ridge Campground. The owners have two of their own pets named Chesnee and Micah. When guests bring their pets to the campground, they are expected to keep them leashed, attended to, and cared for. In the dog park and at the pond, guests can let their dogs free to run around and swim.
The owners often seek to improve their campground and ask guests for suggestions on improving their stay or for specific things they enjoyed. Over time they have received many compliments and positive reviews on the number of activities to do on the property, the cleanliness of the restrooms, and the hospitality displayed by the hosts. A recent guest left this review, “Very nice small campground with plenty of room. Plenty of pull-through sites if you just need to take a break. Cece and Brad are fantastic owners and always make you feel at home. Plenty of room for your big rigs as well. Real nice with full hook-ups, a pool, and a fishing pond. On-site propane fills as well. They even have several cabins to rent. Very clean restrooms and showers. Just a really nice place to relax.”
Many events and activities take place at the Pine Ridge Campground. Specific events held any time of the year include family reunions, wedding parties, and company retreats. Sites can be rented in groups to keep members of said parties near each other. Additional activities hosted at the campground include catered dinners and family activities every holiday. There are three to five weeks of Halloween festivities, such as trick or treating and campfire crafts. An Easter egg hunt is held during the spring and a Valentine's Day party is hosted on February 14th. Other events are held on Memorial Day, New Year's Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Every Saturday there are kids’ crafts, and a community fire is held every Friday night. Activity updates are posted to the campground’s Facebook account. The property is open year-round.
A majority of the guests at the Pine Ridge Campground are families with children from five to fifteen years old. Other typical visitors include rally members for motorcycle rallies and couples passing through on road trips. Most guests stay at the campground for one to two days.
Suggested activities outside of the Pine Ridge Campground include visiting the Walnut Grove Plantation, hiking or biking the Mountain State Park Loop Trail, or playing disk golf at the Spartanburg County Park. Nearby restaurants include RJ Rockers, a local brewery; Cribbs Kitchen, a steak and seafood diner; Miyako Sushi; and Willy Taco. In addition to these locations, other activities and attractions are available nearby, including shooting ranges, state parks, bowling allies, and trampoline parks.
Brad and Cecilia are the owners of the Pine Ridge Campground. Originally the property was turned into a campground in the early 1970s. The original owners still live next door to the property, however, and since their ownership, the property has passed through the hands of eight other proprietors. Brad and Cecilia bought the property in 2013. Immediately after the purchase, the couple went to work adding and removing sites, adding amenities, improving the bathhouse and restrooms, and re-landscaping the entire property. New gravel was laid throughout the entire property as well. The couple continues to run their campground alongside their son Evan.
Before purchasing the property Brad worked as a lineman and Cecilia was a kindergarten teacher. Brad was looking for another job and saw the campground for sale and the couple decided to change their entire career paths to purchase it. Soon after it was purchased they asked Evan to help them manage the property as well. The family all lives on or near the property. They all enjoy the feedback they get from their guests and building relationships with their visitors.
