The Pine Lake RV Resort and Cottages is located in Sturbridge, Massachussetts. With 230 RV sites and 55 cottages available from April 1st through November 30th, there are a variety of options for those looking to stay at the property. Each of the cottages is "fully furnished," according to the manager of the resort, with a two-burner stove, stainless steel sink, coffee maker, and cooking equipment. Terri, the property manager, says that the cottages come with "everything, down to the wine glass and corkscrew." Each of the RV sites has full hookups of water, sewer, cable, and electricity. All of the amps are 30 and 50 as well. Terri reports that most of the sites are shaded and that all have a firepit and picnic table for patron usage. On the grounds are a variety of activities for guests including event centers, a basketball court, and a heated pool.
Located on 75 acres of land in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, is Pine Lake RV Resort and Cottages. There are 230 RV sites and 55 cottages that guests can reserve during the open season of April through November. The RV sites are generally shaded, according to the manager, Terri. At each site is a crushed stone pad for patrons to park the RV, a firepit, a picnic table, and full hookups of water, sewage, electricity, cable, and Wi-Fi. There are options for both pull-through and back-in sites.
The cottages are "Amish built," according to Terri, and are made of wood. Each kitchen comes with a two-burner stove, stainless steel sink, microwave, coffee maker, dishes, and cooking utensils. Terri says that the kitchens have "everything down to the wine glass and corkscrew." Additionally, linens are provided for those staying in the cottages, as well as soap, paper towels, and toiletries. The cottages are either one-bedroom, two-bedrooms, or studio layouts. If guests are hoping to bring animals with them for their stay in a cottage, there are some pet-friendly accommodations.
The grounds of the property have multiple amenities that can be used throughout a patron's stay. In the check-in center is a convenience store that sells items such as milk, water, soda, pre-made sandwiches, snacks, and collectible memorabilia items. There are also four launderettes, each with washers and dryers, spread across the property. Other potential areas of interest on the land include four event centers, a basketball court, a billiards room, a fitness center, community firepits, walking trails, a lake, volleyball courts, a heated outdoor pool, and an outdoor hot tub. The lake offers a variety of activities such as fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. Additionally, Terri notes that there are flowers planted throughout the property and "every kind of tree you can imagine."
There are several events hosted throughout the season at Pine Lake RV Resort and Cottages, including casino weekends, murder mystery dinners, Easter dinners, and bingo nights. For some holidays, such as Easter, the staff of the resort will drop off Easter baskets to families with young children in the morning from the "Easter Bunny." Every week, they host an event called "Build-A-Stuffy" where children get to make their own stuffed animals. Terri says that each of the events is themed, such as a 60s weekend or pirate weekend.
At Pine Lake RV Resort and Cottages, there are policies in place which guests are expected to abide by during their stay. Terri says the most important of these is to respect other campers and those in neighboring cottages. There is a strict quiet time designated to begin at 10:00 p.m. At that time, patrons do not need to be inside their overnight accommodations, but they need to "keep the noise to their site," according to Terri. Additionally, dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash at all times and not left unattended. There is also no smoking allowed indoors at the event centers, bathhouses, or any other inside area of the property. There are only eight people allowed to be at each site, and only one vehicle per site. Lastly, those staying at the establishment are welcome to bring golf carts to drive during their stay, but drivers must have a license.
While staying at the resort, Terri and the staff hope that visitors can feel "like they are staying with family." With the hopes of providing this guest experience, the staff strives to greet campers with smiles, and they are willing to help with problems that patrons may be experiencing. They are also willing to help teach and train those who haven't stayed in an RV before on the proper ways to hook up the vehicle. They strive to interact frequently with guests as well.
Those who have previously stayed at the establishment often comment on the hospitality of the staff, the amenities of the park, and the spacious sites. One former patron said, "It was a great laid-back atmosphere with a super friendly owner and kind employees. Beautiful trees and a fishing pond with RV spaces among the trees. Very quiet and peaceful." Other guests comment on the food served at the events, as Terri's husband has built custom smokers for the property where pulled pork or barbeque chicken is smoked for various events throughout the season.
Some local areas of interest to visitors to the area may include the Old Sturbridge Village. The village is a historic area that has multiple attractions. Additionally, the resort is an hour from Boston, Massachusetts; and Providence, Rhode Island; as well as two hours from Cape Cod—all of which have a variety of activities and events throughout the year. Some restaurants that Terri recommends to guests include Sturbridge Steakhouse, Baba Sushi, and BT Smokehouse.
Phillip Moreau, the owner of Pine Lake RV Resort and Cottages, has worked in the industry and owned RV parks for over 20 years. He purchased the resort in 2018 and has worked on updates and renovations in the time since. Before Phillip acquired the property, it was a Yogi Bear Campground for many years. Terri, the manager, says that in the past three years they have "pretty much demolished and rebuilt," the establishment. "It is nothing like it used to be," she says. During the renovations, they added more RV sites, reconstructed old sites, put in a water treatment plant, and built the cottages. Much of the renovation included changing sites from "primitive camping," or tent sites, into RV sites. In the future, they hope to add more cottages to the property.
Terri became one of the managers of the property after staying at one of Phillip's other properties. She and her husband work at the property and have had managerial experience in the past. Terri's favorite part of managing the establishment is being able to meet a wide range of people that come to stay with them. She enjoys "creating memories for the guests," and helping families establish camping traditions.
