Each campsite is able to have one vehicle per site with a pass. Additional passes can be purchased to have more cars at the guest's site during their stay. The surrounding area is comprised of a relatively high density of pine trees and has views of the surrounding mountain peaks. The establishment is operated under a permit from the Inyo National Forest, making it forest service land.
Events hosted at the Pine Cliff RV Resort and General Store include a weekly ice cream social where guests bring their own bowl and spoon and purchase ice cream for fifty cents a scoop. The property has set the goal to maintain the structure and flow the business currently has and hopes that their patrons are able to live their motto, “Enjoy the Camping Experience.” Sandra, the owner, reports that the establishment strives to do this through their attitudes and the hometown feel of the area.
To aid in the guest experience, the resort has enacted certain policies in hopes of creating the environment they want for their patrons. Such policies include not allowing ATVs or motorcycles, no loud music, quiet time starting at 10:30 at night, and campfires having to go out by 10:00 at night. Sandra says these policies are meant to enable visitors to enjoy the serenity of nature with no distractions from fellow patrons and make the property kid-friendly. Pets are allowed on the property but must be kept on a leash and cannot be unattended at the campsite; additionally, there is a limit of two pets per visitor. One visitor to the resort reviewed, “I was happy to know they allow dogs, and that it was within walking distance to the lake. It’s a nice place that is clean and well organized. The campgrounds have everything you will need, including clean toilets, warm showers, and an on-site store.”
The typical demographic of guests to the Pine Cliff RV Resort & General Store usually includes families or large groups that will often host events such as family reunions. The warmer season allows for various activities that draw patrons to the surrounding area, such as fishing, horseback riding, visiting the lakes, hiking, and rock climbing. Specific attractions in the area include the Bodie State Historical Park; June Lake, which is the only lake in the area that swimming is permitted; and railroad museums. Boat rentals are available in the area for those looking to fish. Sandra’s personal favorite places to eat that she would recommend to visitors include Tiger Bar and Café, Double Eagle Resort, and the Carsen Peak Inn, which is her number one recommendation.
According to Sandra, the Pine Cliff RV Resort and General Store is most known for its location and being close to four different lakes in the area, namely Grant Lake, June Lake, Silver Lake, and Gull Lake. The property is 16 miles south of Mammoth and 14 miles from the backdoor of Yosemite. Mammoth has an annual triathlon in June that visitors often come to the area for and will stay at the resort. Overall, Sandra says the property is a destination place with various things to do in the surrounding areas.
The Pine Cliff Resort and General Store has been run by the same family for the past five generations, with the current owner being Sandra Miller, who purchased the property from the last owners over 37 years ago. The business was established in 1955 and has had a total of three different ownerships. The Miller family was led to run and operate the resort because it was their dream. Sandra reports they loved camping, people interaction, and being able to organize the business. Owning the RV resort was the way for them to fulfill their dreams.
Since the business was established, it has always served as an RV resort. Throughout the years, the property has seen some renovations and additions, such as adding to the store and building new restrooms. Sandra reports that the property is now maxed out with no more space to add additional features. Sandra says that she loves everything about her job, including helping people, taking reservations, and overall interactions with visitors.
