She can also give recommendations for attractions and restaurants to visit in the general area. According to Debbie, outdoor recreation is one of the most popularly engaged-in pastimes in Deerfield, especially considering that Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort neighbors Berlin Lake. Fishing, swimming, and boating are some of the lake activities that visitors tend to undertake during their stay. There are also a few trails for walking or biking that wind throughout the vicinity.

About

Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort is a campground and RV park located on approximately 42 acres of land in a rural portion of northeastern Ohio. A total of 175 RV sites are available for visitors to reserve, and the resort primarily caters to seasonal campers. The sites are mostly back-in, although there are a few pull-through options as well. These sites provide water and electric hookups with a mix of 20-amp, 30-amp, and 50-amp connections. It should also be noted that each spot is supplied with a picnic table and a fire ring. In addition to the RV spots, Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort offers six cabins. These cabins range from basic camping cabins without running water to more spacious units with showers, kitchenettes, and multiple beds of varying sizes.

Beyond the accommodations and sites that patrons can occupy, the property additionally includes a few facilities for guest use. The resort features a clubhouse with amenities such as ping pong, foosball, and a piano. Moreover, Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort has a small camp store that sells a variety of snacks and other items, such as nightcrawlers, beer, wine, ice cream, and novelties. While the surrounding area is mostly rural and wooded, guests can explore several nearby attractions in Deerfield. Debbie Philabaun, the owner of Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort, recommends the following places to visit: Noah's Lost Ark, which houses a variety of wildlife, and Good's Raceway, which may appeal to racing enthusiasts. Debbie reports that Noah's Lost Ark is known for housing lions, tigers, and giraffes, among other animals. She also mentions that Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort is within an hour's drive of the city of Cleveland as well as Amish Country, both of which contain a number of draws for tourism.

For those who enjoy outdoor recreation, some of the nature-oriented activities that can be undertaken in the vicinity are walking along the trails, going fishing, or taking a swim in the adjacent lake. As the resort neighbors Berlin Lake, Debbie describes the encompassing land as a "major boating, fishing, and swimming area" in terms of tourism. With regard to nearby dining options, Debbie recommends Ben's Restaurant & Bar, Circle Restaurant, and G's Pizza World.

Culture

With the aim to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the owner of Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort, Debbie Philabaun, strives to provide a comfortable experience by accommodating guests' needs. Debbie expresses that the resort promotes a sense of community among campers. According to Debbie, "patrons often look out for one another," and she reports that there are instances where people have gone the extra mile to make their fellow campers feel welcome.

From leaving firewood and ice available for late arrivals to relatively flexible check-in procedures, Debbie tries to help everyone feel well taken care of throughout their stay. One former patron commented in a review and made remarks about the hospitality that Debbie provided, as they said, "Deb is incredibly friendly and accommodating and can usually be found in the little general store where you can pick up necessities and firewood. [The location is] private enough to where you can be secluded from others if you wish, and also plenty of RV campers if you like to have company. The lake is just a short walk from the campsites and is great for fishing."

As a further effort to create a community-oriented atmosphere, activities and events are hosted at the establishment. Events such as Christmas in July and Halloween celebrations can bring guests together for festive and enjoyable experiences. The town of Deerfield also organizes activities such as the Kentucky Derby and golf cart poker runs where people can engage in competitions and socialize.

The policies at Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort are implemented to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone. The quiet time policy, which starts at 11:30 p.m. every night, intends to help maintain a peaceful atmosphere, and Debbie also patrols the resort to address any concerns. While Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort is a pet-friendly establishment, pets are expected to be on a leash at all times, and they are required to have up-to-date shot records. Dogs that exhibit any aggressive behavior toward visitors are prohibited from staying on-site. Furthermore, smoking is not allowed inside the cabins to maintain a clean and odor-free environment for future occupants.

Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort operates seasonally from the last week of April to the middle of October. Debbie says that the busiest time for the campground is "different every year." She observes that a higher quantity of patrons tends to visit between April and Memorial Day. The demographic of those who visit Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort is fairly diverse, as the campground receives older couples, single individuals, and middle-aged people. Generally speaking, Debbie says that they receive "people of all ages." A considerable number of repeat guests also constitute a fraction of the demographic.

History

Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort has been in operation since circa the 1970s. Initially, the property served as a steel mill site for individuals associated with the steel industry. Over time, as the steel mills gradually declined and recreational activities gained popularity, the focus of the resort shifted towards catering to outdoor enthusiasts and campers.

Debbie Philabaun, the current owner, has been managing the resort for 27 years. Her passion for camping and the outdoors led her to invest in the establishment, with the hopes of creating a friendly and inviting environment for visitors. Debbie remarks that her favorite part of her job as the owner is "working with the public, cleaning, boating, and driving her tractor." She remarks, "It's a beautiful area and I just love the property." Over the years, she has made numerous improvements, including constructing a new clubhouse and storage building and upgrading the cabins and bathrooms. Future plans involve adding more cabins and making changes to the entrance for further development and enhancement of the business.
