About

Notch View Inn & Campground offers a diverse range of accommodations in the hopes of providing for a variety of needs. With 43 RV units available, guests can choose between weekend stays or longer seasonal stays. The campground provides amenities for said RV sites, including full hookups, picnic tables, and fire rings. The owners of the property, Bill and Dona Sparklin, say that each site is "spaced for privacy" and that all but one unit are back-in sites. They mention that the pull-through site tends to be a popular unit for visitors. The property also features an inn with five bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and two half baths. Some bedrooms have private ensuite bathrooms, while others share facilities. Additionally, guests have access to an equipped kitchen, dining room, living room, sunroom, and deck. All of these rooms can be accessed throughout the entire day, though visitors are asked to keep the volume to a minimum after 10:00 p.m.

The campground itself includes walking trails and two ponds. The ponds are stocked with brown trout and rainbow trout, which guests are allowed to feed, and the walking trails are available for those that would like to explore the surrounding woods. Additionally, for those that bring ATVs with them to the property, there is direct trail access with over 1,200 miles of trails for ATVs. The owners say that the trails are a big draw for their business. Notch View Inn & Campground spans 33 acres of land, and the owners say that wildlife is common in the area, which could provide new experiences to those visiting.

Culture

The owners of Notch View Inn & Campground, Bill and Dona, aim to create a relaxed and "nature-oriented" environment for guests. They mention that this goal is mainly accomplished on account of the surrounding area, as those staying at the property often see birds, deer, and other kinds of wildlife. Additionally, Bill and Dona strive to help their patrons relax and hope to maintain a "laid-back" atmosphere. Interaction between the owners and their guests is based on the visitor's preferences, with the owners saying that they are available when needed. A few guidelines have been implemented with the intent to keep things simple for those visiting. These rules include a pet-welcome policy primarily for the campground for those that bring dogs as long as they are not aggressive, while pets are not permitted at the inn. Guests with pets are expected to keep them on leashes and to clean up after them. Courtesy towards fellow campers is also encouraged, and quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., in accordance with town regulations.

The campground operates seasonally from mid-May to mid-October, with the busiest period aligning with the opening of the ATV trails in late May. The primary demographic consists of outdoor enthusiasts, particularly those interested in ATV riding, wildlife observation, fishing, and hiking. The owners also report that they frequently have repeat guests. Some of these visitors have left reviews about the property, many of which compliment the rooms or the owners. One such review says, "We stayed in the Queen Suite Room, and it was great! Comfortable Sleep Number bed, which helped us sleep through the night just fine. Very friendly owners who were very helpful telling us where we could go to get some great views of the season." Another guest wrote, "The views are wonderful. The owners are great, and the house is nice. We had a fun time renting an ATV for the day."

In addition to Notch View Inn & Campground's atmosphere, the surrounding area provides attractions such as hiking trails, waterfalls, and numerous fishing lakes. The owners say that Umbagog Lake and Lake Francis are popular choices for kayaking and other water activities. For those hoping to engage in such pastimes, rental kayaks are available at both. Bill and Dona also recommend that people visit some of the local dining options. Some of their personal recommendations include Black Bear Tavern, a restaurant called Wilderness, House of Pizza, and Xiao Fei's Buffet.

History

Notch View Inn & Campground has a history that dates back to its origins as a dairy farm in the early 1900s. Originally owned by the Forbes family, the property later transitioned into an inn and campground in the 1970s. After being run by a few different owners, the current owners, Bill and Dona Sparklin, purchased the business, bringing with them their familiarity with the area and a desire for a fulfilling endeavor. They had been working in the corporate world for some years before purchasing the business In 2011, and they felt that running the inn and campground would be a good fit for them. Today, Bill and Dona say that they enjoy interacting with those staying with them and "sharing [their] property" with all those that choose to stay with them.

Since acquiring Notch View Inn & Campground, the owners have made minor adjustments, such as adding new sites and clearing areas for the glamping site. They strive to keep the property up-to-date and perform maintenance whenever needed in the hopes of providing a good experience for guests. Looking ahead, there are currently no specific plans for additional changes or expansions; instead, the owners aim to maintain their current atmosphere, which they believe visitors appreciate.
