Neil E Michaud Campground LLC

Neil E Michaud Campground LLC occupies 10 acres of land in Presque Isle, Maine. Currently, under the ownership of Julie Knight, the campground offers 48 RV sites that visitors can occupy from May 1st to October 15th. Due to the relatively high quantity of lakes, rivers, and natural land that can be found in the vicinity, outdoor activities serve as a draw for tourism in the area, as patrons can undertake snowmobiling, ATV riding, and water recreation, among other activities. Haystack Mountain, Arnold Brooke Lake, Echo Lake, and Aroostook River are a few sites that guests can visit during their stay. The city of Presque Isle also contains several shops and restaurants that people can explore.

About

Located in northern Maine, Neil E Michaud Campground LLC is situated in the city of Presque Isle. A total of 48 RV sites are available for guests to reserve, all of which are leveled pull-through spaces with water and electric hookups. Eight of these sites are equipped with full hookups, and two offer 50-amp electrical services. A plot of grass, a fire pit, and a picnic table come with every RV site, and guests are given access to free WiFi over the course of their stay.

The premises encompasses about 10 acres of land, which is composed of a wooded area that isn't developed yet and a field where patrons can go tent camping. With the intent to facilitate larger groups of visitors to stay with each other, the tent camping field does not have designated sites, and people can base their tents wherever they see fit. In addition to the established RV sites and the tent camping field, the grounds feature a laundry facility, bathhouse, and rec room. According to the owner of the establishment, Julie Knight, the bathhouse can provide warm showers for visitors. Those who are staying at Neil E Michaud Campground LLC can engage in several activities on-site without having to leave the property, including volleyball, horseshoes, and other similar pastimes. At the center of the premises, a racehorse track courses in a loop, which patrons can utilize to jog and exercise. Julie notes that five laps around this track are equivalent to one mile.

Beyond the acreage, multiple shops, restaurants, and attractions are located in Presque Isle. Julie mentions that on account of the campground's fairly close proximity to the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce, visitors can be aware of some of the local events or festivals that take place in the city. One of the most unique sites that can be found in the general area is the site of a former balloon launch that reportedly became internationally known, as explained by Julie. The campground is also within approximately 15 miles of an inactive volcano site known as Haystack Mountain. Julie describes the vicinity as "very country" and rural; thus, a number of outdoor recreational activities can be found nearby as well. Snowmobiling and ATV trails wind through various parts of Presque Isle's rural land. For those who hope to explore the dining options that are found in the city, Julie recommends they visit Governor's Restaurant, Ruby Tuesday, and Ferris Barbeque. Patrons can also order from a number of places that can deliver their meals to the campground.

Culture

Julie Knight, the owner of Neil E Michaud Campground LLC, has the goal of making her guests feel "like they are part of the family." She further expresses, "I want them to feel like they belong somewhere." In an effort to achieve this goal, Julie gives visitors the opportunity to order eggs, meats, donuts, and other items from a local store which they can pick up directly from the campground's front office. "If they need something and they need help getting it, I'll find a way to get it for them," Julie remarks. She also offers to make essential oil remedies such as bug spray and lip balm for patrons to utilize. Some reviews of the campground that were left by former guests mention the hospitality that was provided by the owner. One person commented, "Great place to stay, spacious lots, friendly owner. This was the only place in the area with a dump station still available, and we were very grateful. The area is nice and quiet, and the lawn is very nicely maintained."

Everyone who stays at Neil E Michaud Campground LLC is expected to adhere to the establishment's policies. While the campground is pet-friendly, visitors must keep their pets leashed, and they must clean up after them. Moreover, quiet hours begin every night at 10:30 p.m. A trash and dumping station are available on-site, therefore, patrons are encouraged to pick up after themselves in an attempt to foster a clean environment.

Neil E Michaud Campground LLC is open seasonally from May 1st to October 15th due to extreme weather conditions during the winter season. Julie remarks that temperatures tend to drop 50 degrees below zero in the winter. The campground often experiences its busiest season of operation after the Fourth of July.

History

For over 60 years, Neil E Michaud Campground LLC has been operating under the ownership of the current owner's family. Julie Knight, the present owner, reports that her grandfather started the business in the early 1960s. Notably, Julie says when her grandfather established the campground, it was the first in the town of Presque Isle. In the 1980s, Julie's parents—Bob and Barb Kinney—purchased the acreage and have been operating the campground until 2023, when Julie took over management. Julie has come to find that her favorite part of her job as the owner is "carrying on [her] family's tradition of taking care of the business." She also enjoys "being outside and connecting with nature."

Aside from carrying on her family's tradition of owning the campground, Julie also plans on adding more 50-amp service sites. Furthermore, she is considering the addition of more three-way hookup sites as well. In terms of aesthetic updates to the grounds, Julie hopes to add gardens and more greenery. While the establishment currently offers a range of on-site activities, the owner also wants to add entertainment and musical gatherings for guests to enjoy.
