Magnolia Sands RV Park

Magnolia Sands RV Park

Wiggins, Mississippi, is home to the Magnolia Sands RV Park. The RV park was established ten years ago by Bridgett and her husband, who opened it during their retirement and have been the owners ever since. Twenty five RV sites adorn the property for reservations; additionally, there are cabins on the premises available to guests. All of the RV sites include full hookups, a concrete slab, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Features on the property include a stream that runs through the 14-acre premises and a pond. Patrons are allowed to fish in the pond; fishing permits aren't required for people to fish in the body of water. There is a clubhouse the business uses as a common area. Amenities in the building include books, games, a TV, DVDs, and exercise equipment. Magnolia Sands RV Park is open year-round, with the winter being the busiest season of operation for the business.

About

The Magnolia Sands RV Park is located in Wiggins, Mississippi, which is in the southern part of the state. Bridgett, the owner of the RV park, reports that her property is on "the smaller side," located in the country. The park has a total of 25 sites available for reservation. All RV sites have full hookups; each one has other amenities such as a fire ring and picnic tables. Concrete slabs accompany each RV area where visitors can park their RVs. There are also a few "get-a-way" cabins that Bridgett says only one to two visitors can occupy at a time. Each cabin has a kitchenette as well as couches and a front porch with seating. Bridgett explains that guests use the cabins when they want to vacation with friends who don't own an RV, but that overall, the RV sites are more popular than the cabins.

On the property, there is a clubhouse that has amenities for patrons to use, such as books, games, TV, DVDs, exercise equipment, and a keyboard, to name a few. Other amenities provided throughout the RV park include a laundromat with coin-operated machines, men's and women's showers, and a pond and stream that visitors can fish in. Fishing is open to anyone staying at the park with no need for a fishing license. All features of the Magnolia Sands RV Park can be located throughout the 14-acre property. Desoto National Forest is relatively close to the premises of the property, and Hattiesburg and Gulf Port, both cities in Mississippi, are within 35 miles of the park.

Culture

The Magnolia Sands RV Park strives to have a relatively quiet environment for its guests. More specifically, the property is not known for doing large events, because "[it's] a very small campground," explains the owner, Bridgett. However, she does report that a few small clubs have come to the property in the past. The winter is the busiest time of year for the year-round business. During this time, the increase in occupancy is due to the relatively warmer weather that snowbirds come for to get away from otherwise colder weather.

Activities available in the area include hiking and canoeing in De Soto National Forest. Other attractions can be found in the surrounding cities, such as Hattiesburg and Gulf Port, which are both about 35 miles away. Towards the coast of Mississippi, there is an event called Cruisin' the Coast that brings in a relatively large amount of people to the area. Often times visitors will come to the Magnolia Sands RV Park during the event. There is a Pine Hill Festival in the Wiggins area that Bridgett says is "a big deal." Other attractions near the city include Clint Creek Water Park, which is down the road from the RV Park, a pecan festival in the fall, and other local festivals that happen throughout the year. In Wiggins, Bridgett recommends three places that her guests should eat at when they visit. The recommendations include Miss Julie's Market, Bill's Catfish and Steaks, and the Frosty Mug, which is a business that has been in business for over 100 years. Items served at Frosty Mug include burgers, ice cream, and PO-boys, to name a few. Additionally, Bridgett says there is a small local coffee shop in town that visitors tend to visit when they are staying at the property.

The owner remarks those who stay at the park "come for the peace and quiet" on the property. Bridgett reports that one of her main goals for the business is to provide a place for people to get away from the stressors of life and relax. One guest described the atmosphere of the property as, "Quiet and relaxing; beautiful scenery and wonderful people." Golf carts and gators are prohibited from the property to aid in trying to keep a quiet atmosphere. One past visitor to the park remarked, "This place is a very nice park. It's quiet and charming. Management is just like family very helpful, kind people." Some policies of the RV Park include restrictions on dog breeds; all dogs are welcome to the property except for pit bulls. The staff at the RV Park also asks patrons to be respectful and mindful of other visitors at the park. Smoking is permitted on the property; however, it is restricted in all buildings. The quiet time on the premise starts at 10:00 PM and goes until 8:00 AM. Bridgett and the staff like to interact with their guests; however, they will base it on the desires of each patron. "Some people want to stick to themselves, and we respect that," reports Bridgett.

History

Bridgett and her husband established the Magnolia Sands RV Park ten years ago. They were the ones to create the park and have owned and operated it ever since. The current owners built the property once they retired and have been spending their time running the RV Park since its opening. Bridgett's favorite part of owning the RV Park is meeting the people who who come to the property. Visitors have come from all over, says Bridgett, "from Germany, Russia, Canada, and all over the United States." She goes on to report they have had guests from 48 out of the 50 states.

The RV park has seen updates every few years with the addition of new things. Such additions have included WiFi, with future plans to keep updating it. Overall, Bridgett says there haven't been any significant changes, only minor improvements to the premises.
