Log Cabin Resort & Campground

The Log Cabin Resort and Campground is located in Trego, Wisconsin, along the Namekagon, allowing easy access to the St. Croix River. Christy and her family, the current owners, bought the property in June 2018, making them the fourth owners of the business. The premises has 32 RV sites and nine cabins. Three are called The Cozy Cabins, and the others are called The Housekeeping Cabins, which have bathrooms inside. In contrast, the RV sites and Cozy Cabins have access to bathhouses centrally located on the property. RV sites have water and electricity as well as 30 and 50 amps. The biggest draw to the area is the Namekagon River. The business is a certified outfitter that allows them to rent water equipment and shuttle people to any of the 40 landings along the river. Equipment that can be rented includes kayaks, canoes, and tubes, which are available to everyone. Those staying at the resort and the public also have access to the shuttle service.

About

The Log Cabin Resort and Campground is located in Trego, Wisconsin, and has been owned since 2018 by Christy and her family. The property is four acres and is located right along the Namekagon River. There are forty landings along the 101-mile long river where people are able to enter/exit the river. On the property, there are 32 RV sites and nine cabins. The RV sites are equipped with hookups including water, electricity, 30 and 50 amps, with five areas having a sewer hookup. Three of the nine cabins are called The Cozy Cabins because of the bunk beds; these cabins accommodate up to six guests and have lofts and decks for visitors to use. All the other cabins, The Housekeeping Cabins, range from sleeping two to ten guests. All the places are equipped with electricity, picnic tables, fire pits, and charcoal grills. One policy for the land is that the staff asks patrons to not bring their firewood. The owners provide all firewood to visitors in order to ensure the health of their trees. The four Housekeeping Cabins have kitchens stocked with pans, dishes, utensils, etc., and they also have bathrooms, unlike The Cozy Cabins. The RV sites and cozy cabins have access to a bathhouse that includes showers and flushing toilets located centrally on the grounds. There is also a pavilion on the grounds that guests have access to with the option to reserve it for lunches.

The property has a store available for guests and the public. Essentials, water shoes, souvenirs, things needed for the water, and logo apparel including sweats, shirts, and jackets are sold at the store. The Log Cabin Resort and Campground business is a certified outfitter allowing them to rent equipment and offer shuttle services. The business also rents kayaks, tubes, and canoes to use on the river. Patrons are permitted to bring these things themselves if they own some. The resort also offers a shuttle service to the different landings located along the river, allowing the establishment to customize river trips for people. There is also an inflatable water park for families to use, only those age 15 and younger are allowed on, and a playground for kids and a splash pad. These areas include inflatable water slides, obstacle course, climbing wall, and bouncy castles. All features, including the inflatable area and river services, are available to patrons and the public. The premises also offers a sandy beach for those who stay on the property. The establishment is the only commercial property on the river that has a natural beach.

There is an area where the river backwaters into creating a fishing pond for patrons to use. The pond is stocked with fish found in the river, including pike, muskie, and bass. The resort does not provide fishing equipment, but guests can use the pond at their convenience with personal fishing equipment. There are also places to fish all along the river and in the surrounding lakes. The surrounding area has walking trails and hikes for visitors to explore. The business is pet-friendly, but animals must be kept on a leash and walk on the trails.

Culture

Christy, the owner of Log Cabin Resort and Campground, strives to help families create the best possible memories when visiting the resort. Providing a family-friendly atmosphere is one of Christy and her family's goals. The staff does this by putting a focus on making genuine connections with guests when they first arrive on the premises and by aiding them in anything from the campsites to water rentals and shuttles. Guests in the past have said that "This is a wonderful resort. Very clean and well maintained. The people that own it and their staff are extremely pleasant and helpful," and also that the resort is a "Great Campground for families." The owners have also implemented policies to maintain the desired atmosphere, such as quiet time at 11:00 PM, a worker being on-site 24/7, and providing family-friendly activities. Overall, the most prominent policy that Christy asks her guests to follow is to be respectful to other patrons.

Log Cabin Resort and Campground is known for being a destination where people can enjoy outdoor adventures in the Northwoods. Guests usually discover the business through online marketing and by word of mouth from past patrons. The season of operation is between the beginning of May to the beginning of September, with the Eagles Nest Cabin being the only site open all year. However, the owners have the goal of building and opening up more cabins during the winter months, making it a year-round business. The resort becomes the busiest after the third week of June and continues until it closes for the year. People staying here are from all over the United States, all guests ranging in age with a mix of couples and families.

Visitors typically come to Trego, Wisconsin, for outdoor and surrounding activities. Floating down the Namekagon is one of the biggest attractions, and visiting the surrounding national forests. The area also has nationally ranked golf courses, including Siren National, Big Fish Golf, and Spooners Golf Course. Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame, Railroad Memories Museum, rodeos, and the Lumberjack Championships are all events that happen near the resort. The Lumberjack Championships happen in July every year. A surrounding town, Hayward, is home to the annual Birkebeiner Ski Race and is said to have exciting snowmobile and UTV trails in America. When staying at the resort, Christy recommends patrons to eat at Prime Restaurant, Main Street Taco, and El Taquila.

History

Christy and her family have owned the Log Cabin Resort and Campground business since June 2018. The land was first established with the campsites in the '50s, with the log cabins being added in 1994. Christy is the fourth owner of the resort. Descendents of past owners currently live in the area and are neighbors with the property. Christy and her family knew the previous owners, which made for an easy transition in ownership. The family loves camping and being outdoors, which they have been able to enjoy more through their business. One of Christy's favorite parts about owning the property is meeting the people who visit and building connections with guests, especially those who repeatedly come back for another visit.

The property has undergone significant changes and renovations since it first opened. a few changes that have been made to the property since Christy's time there include air conditioning being added to the cabins, upgrades in the amp service, all new septic systems, new equipment for water activities, and updated furnishings. Christy has set the goal to convert some of the campsites to full-service cabins and make it so the property can be open during the winter months. She believes that opening the business all year would provide guests the ability to enjoy all the activities that the town of Trego, Wisconsin, has to offer.
