Lewis & Clark RV Park is located in Shelby, Montana, which is a city that can be found about 30 miles from the Canadian border. There are 60 RV sites that are open year-round. Due to the RV park's layout, all of the places that can be reserved are pull-through spaces, and cars park parallel so that there is more room between each trailer. The current owners purchased the property in August of 2020 and have added amenities like a horseshoe pit and a dog area with a fence. Across the street visitors can find Lake Shel-oole and a five-mile walking trail. Glacier National Park is about 72 miles from the property, and there are many outdoor places in the vicinity that allow for fishing and hunting.
Lewis & Clark RV Park has a total of 60 RV sites available to the public. The parking lot offers parallel parking spaces, which is intended to make sure guests do not have their RVs next to someone else's mobile home. Depending on which space a visitor decides to reserve, the RV plots have either full-service hookups with water, sewage, and electricity of 30 and 50 amps or partial hookups with only water and electricity. Regardless of which site is used, each one has a grassy outcrop and comes with a picnic table. While the property does have WiFi, there are a few locations that it may not be able to reach.
Besides the RV spaces, visitors can also visit the main office, which has a small store. The store sells a variety of things ranging from RV supplies to anything that people may have forgotten when they left for their trip. Guests can also buy or fill up their propane tanks at the main building. An on-site laundry room offers coin-operated machines for visitors to clean their clothes during their stay. There are public restrooms and showers, two in the main office, which are open year-round and four outside that are only available seasonally. A fenced pet area allows dogs to run and play without having to be leashed. Other amenities that can be found on the edifice include a horseshoes pit, bocce ball, and a five-mile walking trail that starts next to Lake Shel-oole, which is across the street.
Outside of Lewis & Clark RV Park is the town of Shelby. Shelby has several boutiques and bars guests can choose to visit, many of these places being Downtown. One unique place in the city is the Carousel Rest Area, which is in a park called Champion's Park. The Carousel Rest Area is only open at specific times, so it is recommended that guests call ahead of time to ensure that it is available. The rest area has a working carousel for visitors to use as well as a place to buy ice cream and other snacks. Down the road, south of Champion's Park, one can find a historical museum called Maria's Museum of History & Art.
A goal for Lewis & Clark RV Park is to become a fun destination for people that visit. The owner of the property would like his guests to feel happy and to enjoy their stay, and he wants to leave a good impression for those that may be planning on coming back to the area. To help their patrons feel that way, they will guide them to their sites when they arrive, and, according to Dave, the current owner, "Cheree and I will go around several times a day and make sure nobody needs anything." He strives to interact with his visitors often and tries to resolve any issues people have quickly.
Lewis & Clark RV Park is not only roughly 30 miles from the Canadian border, but it is also about 72 miles away from Glacier National Park. Many people that stay at the RV park are typically on their way to or from Canada, Alaska, or Glacier National Park. Wildlife can be found in the area and near the property, including animals like coyotes, foxes, deer, and antelope. The owner mentions that there is one fox in particular that visits more often than most and that it can sometimes be seen spending time on the edge of the park.
Lewis & Clark RV Park has accumulated many reviews over the years. One thing that is often mentioned about the property is the quality of care that the owners put into the grounds. One person who stayed at the RV park left a review that reads, "We spent two nights at Lewis & Clark RV. The new owners are nice and helpful. Dave directed us to our spot. The campground is small, quiet, and peaceful."
Lewis & Clark RV Park does not put on any events, but it is okay if guests would like to have their own small get-togethers. The property asks that guest keep their animals on a leash at all times on the grounds, though they can be off their leash if they are in the fenced-in dog area. Quiet time begins at 10:00 pm and ends at 7:00 am every day.
Lewis & Clark RV Park has been in business since the mid-90s. There have been two owners that owned the property for about 20 years before they sold it to someone else, who eventually sold it to the current owner, Dave. According to Dave, before it was an RV park, it was a drive-in theater, with the only remaining evidence of this being the cement pad that used to be where the screen was.
Dave purchased Lewis & Clark RV Park in August of 2020 and has been running the property with his wife, Cheree, ever since then. He explains that he was led into the industry when he left his job in 2020. While he was looking for a new job, he and his wife decided that they wanted to look for a place they could manage themselves. In August, they came across Lewis & Clark RV Park, which was for sale, so they bought the property and moved to Montana. Another reason that they came to Montana to run an RV Park is that their daughter, Dannaka, is being taken care of by them, and owning this property not only allows Dave and Cheree to be there for her, but she also participates in helping out where she can on the edifice.
Ever since Dave and Cheree took ownership, they have added things like the horseshoe pit, bocce ball, and the fenced pet area. The restrooms have had renovations made to them as well. Dave mentions that his favorite part of the job is meeting the people that come to stay at the property. Lewis & Clark RV Park has seen guests from many parts of the United States and Canada.
