Island Road RV Park

Island Road RV Park is located in the town of Columbus, Mississippi. The property offers crushed stone sites for RVs of varying sizes, with full hookups including 30/50-amp electricity, water, sewer, and fiber-optic internet connections. The park is surrounded by trees, providing shade and privacy for guests. The park also features laundry facilities and mailboxes for long-term residents. The owner, Stuart, strives to provide a “clean and quiet place to stay” for his guests and hopes that all visitors understand the park's policies and expectations before arrival. These guidelines include being respectful of other campers and, in the words of Stuart, using "common sense." Island Road RV Park is located near downtown Columbus, according to Stuart, with access to local attractions such as downtown, a soccer complex, a local farmers market, an amphitheater, and antebellum-era homes.

About

Island Road RV Park—owned by Stuart Phillips—is located on an island in downtown Columbus, Mississippi. The RV park has 37 RV sites, all of which have full hookups, including water, sewer, electricity, and high-speed fiber optic internet. Each site can accommodate any size RV, and they all have 20-, 30-, and 50-amp power outlets. In addition to the RV sites, there is an eight-acre area provided for tent camping across the street. The park also has a separate building known as the Laundry House that has three sets of coin-operated washers and dryers, a lobby area, and a sitting area where guests can relax while doing laundry. There are no bathrooms or bathing facilities on the property, and there is no main office for guests.

According to Stuart, Island Road RV Park is located in downtown Columbus, but he remarks that, due to the surroundings and location of the park, “it feels like you're out in the country.” The premises of the RV park encompasses six acres of land with open spaces where guests can sit and enjoy their surroundings.

The Island Road RV Park is situated in an area with a variety of attractions that patrons can explore. Columbus, Mississippi, is known for its antebellum-era homes and an annual spring pilgrimage intended to showcase the homes. Stuart says that the homes can be seen throughout the year, not just during the pilgrimage. The town also has a fishing tournament scene. In addition to historical attractions, there is a soccer complex with a riverwalk where those visiting the area can walk or ride bikes. The park is close to the Tombigbee River, which offers a variety of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, and hiking. The surrounding area features several restaurants, namely Old Hickory Steak House and Harvey's, both of which Stuart recommends.

Culture

During visitors' stay at Island Road RV Park, Stuart—the owner of the establishment—hopes that patrons can feel safe and comfortable in a quiet location. Those who have stayed previously at the property have commented on the ambiance of the grounds as well as the proximity to Columbus and the hospitality of Stuart. One former patron said, “Nice RV campground close to downtown Columbus, shopping, and dining. Stuart was extremely easy to work with and helpful. The sites are gravel and fairly level, and the internet was good in the campground.” Another guest of the property said, “The owner was prompt, accommodating, and very friendly. Clean, good 50-amp power, shade, and water/sewer with fast WiFi and an air-conditioned laundry room with coin-operated appliances.”

In order to create an environment where visitors can feel comfortable and safe, there are policies in place that patrons are expected to abide by. Stuart requires guests to behave appropriately and respect others' space and privacy. Guests are expected to be considerate of their neighbors and keep noise to a minimum during the night. While the owner strives to be accommodating, they do have expectations of guests' behavior, which are stated when booking.

The park is open year-round and, according to Stuart, experiences the most activity from February to August. There are several attractions nearby, including the Columbus pilgrimage, several antebellum-era homes, a soccer complex, and fishing tournaments which may contribute to the influx of patrons during this time. The park's guests are mainly word-of-mouth referrals or people who have stayed in the park previously, Stuart says. He also has a screening process for short-term guests to ensure they meet the park's rules. Stuart strives to be “up front” with guests about his expectations for them during their stay, as well as things to do in the area, to hopefully provide them with a pleasant experience.

History

Island Road RV Park is owned and managed by Stuart, who converted the property into an RV park. Over time, Stuart began to add RV sites and has continued to expand the park during his tenure as its owner. A laundry facility and other similar amenities have been added to the grounds during his ownership of the acreage. The park has undergone several changes over the years, including the removal of trees and brush that had grown around the property. This was done in an attempt to make the park more accessible to guests. Stuart has also made upgrades to the electrical and water systems as well as the roads and parking areas.
