Since 2006, Iron City RV Park has been operating under the ownership of Dave and Elizabeth Siskavich. Lyon Mountain—the town in which Iron City RV Park is established—and the property itself bear historical significance, as they both have experiences relating to the mining industry. Though the park was previously utilized as a mine shaft entrance for over a century prior to the present park hosts' ownership, Dave and Elizabeth are the original owners of the lodging business that began on the site. The establishment currently offers 23 RV sites and 4 cabins for patrons to reserve from mid-May to Columbus Day in October. Those who take an interest in outdoor recreational activities may enjoy some of the activities that can be engaged in around the park, as several hiking trails and ATV routes wind throughout the vicinity.
Situated in the town of Lyon Mountain, Iron City RV Park encompasses 25 acres of land in northern New York. The park offers both lodging accommodations and motor home spaces, as a total of 4 cabins and 23 RV sites are available for visitors to occupy. Every RV site is equipped with full hookups that offer water, sewer, and 30-amp electrical services. A picnic table and fire pit are additionally provided at the RV sites and the cabins. It should also be noted that all of the sites are back-in spaces. With regard to the amenities that are supplied in each of the cabins, a kitchenette and a full bathroom with a shower are available inside these accommodations. One cabin can sleep up to four occupants, while another can sleep up to six people with the provision of four cots and a queen-size bed. The cabins and three of the RV sites are designated as transient units, while the remaining sites are seasonal.
For those who are staying in one of the RV spaces, a bathroom and shower facility are located inside the main building where guests check-in. There, patrons are given the opportunity to purchase firewood and bagged ice over the course of their stay. A number of walking trails wind throughout the acreage up the side of the mountain on which the property is located, and these trails often pique the interest of hikers. Dave says that "the biggest draw is ATVing because the park is near county ATV trail systems." Notably, "the Olympic region where the 1932 and 1980 Olympics were held is an approximate 50-minute drive from Iron City RV Park," according to Dave. Dave and Elizabeth Siskavich, the owners of Iron City RV Park, have the goal of helping their patrons feel safe and relaxed, as they encourage their visitors to "enjoy the beauty that the mountains and New York have to offer." In an attempt to provide this secure experience, video surveillance and security access gates are arranged on-site for everyone's safety. The owners also make an effort to interact with those who are staying at Iron City RV Park, as Dave mentions, "I meet [guests] and greet them upon their arrival." Furthermore, Dave believes that the secluded and rural nature of the park contributes to the relaxed atmosphere that he and Elizabeth hope to foster at their property.
The view of the adjacent lake and the natural wooded landscape is one particular element of the establishment that Dave takes pride in, and he presumes that this aspect is primarily what the park is known for. Iron City RV Park is open seasonally from mid-May to Columbus Day in October. A few policies are enforced at the establishment, which everyone is encouraged to abide by during their time at Iron City RV Park. With the exception of pit bulls, dogs are welcome to accompany patrons at the park, however, pets must be kept on a leash at all times. In a further effort to promote a safe environment, everyone is expected to obey the posted speed limits when driving around the park. Moreover, quiet hours are implemented every night from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and lastly, smoking is permitted on the premises.
According to one of the owners of Iron City RV Park, Dave Siskavich, "The Lyon Mountain area was a major iron ore mining town." He further explains that what is now known as Iron City RV Park formerly served as an elevator shaft building and an entrance to a mine. "For over 100 years, [the establishment] was part of a successful mining operation," Dave remarks. In 1967, however, the mine shafts were shut down. It wasn't until 2006 that Dave and Elizabeth Siskavich purchased the acreage and began converting it into an RV park. The two owners' main objective was to "develop the property to its fullest potential." Dave notes that at the time, there was a need for RV space, as the industry was growing, hence the reason that Dave and Elizabeth chose to create the park. Iron City RV Park was given its name on account of the role that it played in the mining industry.
A couple of the main changes that were made to construct Iron City RV Park were the installation of utilities that were required to build the park and securing cell phone leasing with Verizon to receive coverage for the area. Several other updates were made to the establishment over the course of its history. Dave has discovered that his favorite part of his job as one of the owners is "meeting the people that come to the park and getting to know where they're from and what they do." He and Elizabeth intend to continue operating Iron City RV Park and to provide lodging for those who hope to explore the surrounding area of Lyon Mountain, New York.
