About

Indian Creek Campground is located in Deer Lodge, Montana, on the outskirts of the town. Upon arriving at the property, guests are greeted at the front office. In the office is a lobby area where guests can learn more about the area and check in to their site. In the lobby, visitors can get complimentary coffee throughout the day as well as the occasional dog treat for their pets. Additionally, a small gift shop next to the lobby sells propane, ice, and park merchandise such as t-shirts and mugs. Outside the main offices is a small patio area with chairs set out and small potted plants in front of the office. Beyond the east side of the office building sits the central area of the park.

There are 72 RV sites on the property. Each has a small stretch of grass to the side of each lot. Sites come with a picnic table and include water, sewage, and electricity capable of 30 and 50 amp services. Cable TV is also available in more than half of the sites, for an additional charge. Some lots have trees to help give shade; however, the majority of sites are open and considered by the managers of the campground to be satellite friendly and easier to connect to wifi or internet. In addition to the 72 RV sites, a relatively small field is also used for tent camping. Tent camping does not include any hookups but has access to the other amenities offered at the park.

In the center of the park, guests have access to several communal facilities. There is a coin-operated laundry room with several dryers and washers. Guests are asked to bring their own soaps to use the laundry facility. A bathroom and shower house are also located in the area and are available to all visitors staying on the property. Another amenity offered on the grounds is a communal fire pit and pavilion. Occasional events are held in the area, and patrons can set up grills by the pavilion when gathering together. There is also a trail that visitors may access that leads to a pond and countryside fields on the edges of Deer Lodge before connecting to a road in town.

Patrons to the property often visit local attractions in the area. In the city of Deer Lodge, there are several museums visitors can see. The Old Montana Prison is a guided or self-guided tour of an old prison where guests can hear stories of the area. The Auto Museum Complex is a collection of over 160 classic cars and a popular attraction among guests.  A similar attraction in the area is Grant Kohrs Ranch, a national historic site, which gives visitors a view of what ranch life in Montana was like in the late 1800s, while also making comparisons to ranch life in modern times. Many patrons also visit Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks for outdoor activities. Visitors have several options for dining in the area. The staff mentions that Broken Arrow steakhouse is popular in Deer Lodge. Other restaurants that the staff recommends Parker's Restaurant, a burger diner located in Drummond, Montana, and Barclay's Supper Club in Anaconda, which offers a variety of fine dining options.

Culture

The staff at Indian Creek Campground say that their goal is to help customers have an enjoyable and memorable experience in southern Montana. The staff at Indian Creek Campground strive to give guests a comfortable and relaxing stay, and they make an effort to help guests who have questions about the property or the surrounding area. The staff mentions that they enjoy working with visitors and often interact with those who want to chat or simply have questions. One of the staff members says that the park is mostly known for its location along I-90 in relation to the two national parks found in Montana and the cleanliness of the sites and facilities. One patron commented on their stay at the park, mentioning, "We stayed here for a month and enjoyed our stay. Most sites are pull-through, making one-night stops easy for travelers. The grounds are constantly being maintained with mowing, weeding, and tree trimming. The office staff was friendly."

Indian Creek Campground is open seasonally from April 15 to October 15. The RV park considers its best season of operations between June and July due to local events and weather allowing for more outdoor activities. All ages are welcome to the campground, and the property is pet friendly. Many of the patrons are mature in age and are often couples. Visitors to the property often come from various states but have also come from Canada and Europe. Many guests visit the national parks in Montana or participate in outdoor activities. To help people feel comfortable and help maintain the property, Indian Creek asks its guests to keep dogs on a leash at all times and to clean up after their pets with the doggy stations provided around the park. They also ask that guests are respectful and quieter between 11:00 PM to 8:00 AM and ask that guests do not smoke in public areas of the campground. If guests desire to stay longer than they originally intended to, they are asked to visit the front office and make arrangements to continue their stay.

History

Fickler Oil Company has owned Indian Creek Campground since 1994. Fickler Oil Company was founded in Deer Lodge in 1967 by the Fickler family. The company originally distributed wholesale fuel and lubricants in 1967. As the company grew the Fickler family strove to help the community in other ways. Over the years the company has expanded to include convenience stores, a casino, a liquor store, a Subway, a car wash, and a campground. The company states on its website that "it is our goal to provide travelers with all the food, fuel, supplies and services they need for an enjoyable, memorable stay in southwestern Montana."

Since purchasing the property, many of the current amenities were added or renovated by the Fickler family. The company decided to inherit the original name of Indian Creek after they purchased the establishment. The bathrooms, laundry facility, and shower house have all since been renovated by the owners, and they strive to keep the property up to date and comfortable. Additionally, the Fickler family added ten sites to the establishment for larger RVs and rigs, as well as the pavilion and fire pit. The gift shop was added later to the main office, as they redid the floors and painted the walls of the office and lobby area. Doggy stations are a recent addition to the park as they try to become more pet friendly and add new amenities to help guests.
