Holly Acres Campground

Holly Acres Campground has been owned by Brookwood Diversified since 2018. The property can be found in southern New Jersey and currently offers 100 RV sites that are available for reservation from April 15th to October 31st. Visitors have access to several facilities throughout the duration of their stay, including a swimming pool, an activity center, a laundry facility, and a main office building that contains a small store. The busiest time of year for the RV park is most commonly from the end of May to Labor Day, as school ends for the season. Many of those who stay at Holly Acres Campground are visiting the area to explore Atlantic City. Other attractions, such as the local wineries, frequently pique the interest of tourists as well.

About

Located in the southern region of New Jersey, Holly Acres Campground occupies roughly 40 acres of land. A total of 100 RV sites are currently available for visitors to reserve, the majority of which are equipped with water and electrical hookups. The general manager of the RV park, Hailey Brauer, notes that about 50% of the sites do not have sewer hookups, however, all visitors have access to the property's dump station over the course of their stay. A firepit, picnic table, and Wi-Fi are available to guests regardless of which site they are staying in. Concerning the terrain of each site, Hailey explains that the grounds of the RV spaces vary depending on where the site is located in the park, as some RV spaces have a mixture of sand and dirt, while others are fairly grassy. Forested areas characterize the back of the property, and the front of the premises features the park's amenities.

A main office, game room, activity center, laundry facility, and a barn—which serves as an event center—can all be found within the same general area at the front of the property, in addition to what Hailey refers to as the "adult lounge." The main office also functions as a store that sells standard grocery items, candy, toys, and camping supplies. Hailey remarks that the "ice cream is a big seller" at the store. It should also be noted that the store's operating hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. According to the general manager, all of the facilities can be accessed throughout the day and night, with the exception of the activity center, which is typically open when an event is taking place. Several additional on-site activities are provided at Holly Acres Campground, namely mini golf, a playground, a swimming pool, and a catch-and-release fishing pond. The pond is encompassed by sand, creating a beach or picnic area for guests to use at their leisure.

Outside of the RV park's limits, numerous local wineries and diners can be found in the vicinity. Atlantic City, located about a 25-minute drive from the property, is one of the most prominent draws for tourism. Hailey often directs those who are staying at Holly Acres Campground to this city or to Smithville or Storybook Land. Regarding nearby places to eat, Hailey recommends Bulldogs Bar & Grill and Firehouse Bar & Grill.

Culture

Holly Acres Campground frequently hosts events for their guests to participate in. Hailey Brauer, the general manager, mentions that every Saturday there is always an event that is held, whether it be a cookout, DJ trivia night, karaoke, or movie night. Annual festivities also take place, such as a color-themed event or a carnival weekend, which typically occurs within the first week of August. The carnival weekend entails activities such as a bounce house, dunk tank, and mini-games, as well as concessions that offer cotton candy and other similar items.

Based on her own experiences of staying at campgrounds in the past, Hailey has the goal of creating an atmosphere that allows her guests to feel "welcomed" and "like family." In an effort to emulate such an atmosphere, Hailey's goal is for her and the staff to be "as accommodating as possible." As she operates the office each day, Hailey explains that this gives her the opportunity to "get to know" people who are staying at Holly Acres Campground. One camper mentioned this in a guest review, as they commented, "The staff in the office was super friendly." Through these interactions, Hailey has observed that some campers have been visiting the RV park since they were children.

A few policies are implemented at Holly Acres Campground with the intent of providing a safe experience for visitors. Smoking is permitted on the premises, provided that people stay at a distance from children when doing so, as stated by the general manager. Visitors that bring a dog with them to the RV park must keep their pet leashed at all times, and pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Every night from 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., a security guard periodically walks around the sites and encourages guests to keep noise to a minimum if they are being disruptive. Hailey says that overall, she and the staff expect "common courtesy and respect to other campers" from those who stay at the campground.

Holly Acres Campground is open from April 15th to October 31st. The best season of operation most commonly occurs between the end of May and Labor Day. Hailey believes that this particular time of year is the busiest due to the fact that school is usually not in session and the weather is "nicer." The campground receives a diversity of visitors, ranging from families with young children to older couples.

History

For several years, Holly Acres Campground was neglected prior to when the current corporation purchased it, according to Hailey Brauer, the general manager. While the property itself has been operating as a campground for roughly 50 years, the buildings that are presently located on the premises date back to the 1860s when they were first constructed. In the words of Hailey, the previous owner of the site was unable to continue maintenance on the property, and they decided to sell it in 2018 to Brookwood Diversified, the corporation that currently owns Holly Acres Campground. The first two years of their ownership were spent cleaning up the park "to make it operational again," Hailey says. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, which delayed the opening of the campground, the property was made accessible to the general public, allowing visitors to make reservations.

Hailey Brauer initially worked at a different property that was under the ownership of Brookwood Diversified. The same year that the corporation purchased Holly Acres Campground, Hailey began working as a lifeguard at the campground's swimming pool area, and later, she started to work as a staff member in the main office. The owners eventually asked Hailey if she wanted to move to the area to operate Holly Acres Campground, to which she agreed. Since the time she first started working at Holly Acres Campground, Hailey has come to find that her favorite part of assisting with running the business is "the connections [they] make with campers." She remarks that she enjoys "helping people create the memories that [she] created as a kid."

A number of updates have been done to the property, primarily "beautifying the park" and "trying to bring life back to it," as stated by Hailey. This involved extensive upkeep with landscape maintenance. Hailey comments that they opened a new section of the park that hasn't been available to visitors for years, and many of the sites that are in this area have become usable. As for future plans, the management of Holly Acres Campground has the goal of adding more sites in order to accommodate a higher quantity of visitors.
