Located in northern Texas near the city of Jacksboro, Hidden Lake RV Ranch & Safari encompasses a total of 77 acres of land. Visitors are given the option to experience a daily, weekly, or monthly stay in one of the three different types of units, which are as follows: RV spaces, rental cabins, and tent sites. Owners of the property deem Hidden Lake RV Ranch & Safari as a "Safari Park," and one of the most notable elements of the campground is the abundance of exotic wildlife that roam the grounds. In addition to this, they also consider the property to be "a destination" for tourists due to the variety of outdoor recreational activities that guests have access to during their stay.
Hidden Lake RV Ranch & Safari can be found in the northern region of Texas, currently offering 38 RV sites, 2 short-term rental cabins, and a separate area on the premises that are designated for tent camping. Amy Cooper, an owner of the campground, describes the tent camping space as "true camping," meaning the sites are located in a relatively forested area surrounded by natural woodlands. As for the RV sites, each space is equipped with full hookups that offer 30/50 amp electrical service. Some of the RV sites include a picnic table and fire pit as well. Both of the rental cabins supply amenities that are somewhat different from each other. The barn-style cabin can sleep up to four occupants and contains a queen-sized bed, couches, a TV, and a full kitchen. The park's newest cabin hosts a kitchenette, TV, and a pull-out sofa and can sleep a maximum of six people.
All visitors at Hidden lake RV Ranch & Safari are given access to the main office, where they can receive a map of the park. For those who are staying in the tent sites, a laundry facility with an adjoining bathroom and shower is available for tent occupants over the course of their stay. Amy notes that people who have a converter for the charging plug of their electrical vehicle are welcome to stop by the campground to use one of the RV sites' hookups to charge their car.
Given that the RV park extends a wide range of outdoor recreational activities, the property is fairly nature-oriented. A nine-acre lake characterizes a portion of the premises, which Amy says many fishermen have utilized to catch some of the fish species that inhabit the lake, including catfish, bass, and perch. Other features of the park, such as the playground, seesaw, and swing set, are available for younger visitors to use at their leisure. Moreover, the central area of the property provides activities such as horseshoes and volleyball. Guests also have access to a number of walking trails that wind throughout the acreage. Considering the previously listed activities that people can engage in on-site, Amy describes Hidden Lake RV Ranch & Safari as "a destination park" that functions as an attraction in and of itself.
One particular aspect of Hidden Lake RV Ranch & Safari that is unique to the park is the free-roaming wildlife that lives on the property. Some of the fauna that has been observed are antelope, Jacob sheep, scimitar-horned oryx, and several different types of deer. The wildlife wanders primarily in the outlying areas of the park but comes in during the evening and early morning hours to graze and sometimes sleep. This is a special feature that the park owners say gives Hidden Lake a “peaceful and serene environment shared up close and personal with the wildlife inhabitants." While the property is home to exotic animals, Hidden Lake RV Ranch & Safari also serves as the home for two donkeys named George and Joy and a tame deer named Elliot.
Beyond the boundaries of the campground, the city of Jacksboro tends to draw tourists to the general area, as the adjacent Lake Jacksboro can give opportunities for lake recreation. Amy comments that the city additionally features a golf course that piques the interest of a fair amount of people. For those who are in search of nearby places to eat, Amy recommends the following restaurants in the order that they are listed: Village Kitchen, Romas Pizza, and JR'S Chophouse.
Amy Cooper, the owner of Hidden Lake RV Ranch & Safari, has the goal of creating a "peaceful" atmosphere that can help people feel "relaxed" during their stay. Furthermore, the range of different types of accommodations that guests can choose from, combined with the abundance of outdoor activities, reflects her desire for campers to "experience the park in its entirety." One former patron mentioned the amenities and the wildlife in a review, saying, "There is a stocked tank full of bass and free fishing when you stay. Great circle trail and plenty of antelope, deer, and oryx. There were also some Jacob sheep on the trail, and I can't leave out the donkey! All throughout the day, there were deer wandering around our campsite."
A few notable policies are implemented at Hidden Lake RV Ranch & Safari that guests are expected to follow throughout the duration of their stay. She also comments that the "demographics are widespread," as they receive a diverse mix of retirees, families with children, and younger couples, to name a few. The park also accommodates workers of various local industries who are residing at the property long-term.
Hidden Lake RV Ranch & Safari began operating as an RV park in 2011, though the current owners of A&A Vacations have only owned the park since February 2022. The owners of A&A have backgrounds in Park ownership and family roots in Texas. They fell in love with the open-air space, wildlife, lake, and especially George, the only resident donkey at the time. Their goal with this park is to provide people with "a place to experience the outdoors and help people create memories that last for generations to come!”
Numerous future plans for updating the property are currently being arranged. There is a large building at the front of the property that will soon become an all-purpose building with a large professional kitchen, seating and gathering areas, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a small workout facility, and a large backyard that will be space for live entertainment and events. There are also plans to add more units to accommodate a higher quantity of visitors. For example, an old covered wagon is permanently stationed on the grounds, which will be converted into a reservable unit. Lakeside cabins are to be added for guests to enjoy a "relaxing" waterside stay. Last but not least on the list of improvements and additions is a treehouse camping space to utilize the park's outdoor features. Hidden Lake owners are excited about the upcoming expansion plans and look forward to hosting many new guests and RV rallies.
