Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds is next to the Guadalupe River in Spring Ranch, Texas. The park features about 45 RV sites, in addition to 22 tent sites and a single furnished cabin. A bathhouse with laundry and a building with a meeting room is also present on the premises. The RV park offers tube, kayak, and canoe rentals for guests to access the Guadalupe River. According to Guy Anderson, the owner of the property, the Guadalupe River is the main attraction for those visiting the area. Guy remarks that the park is within an hour or so of other attractions such as SeaWorld San Antonio, Fiesta Texas, Guadalupe River State Park, the Alamo, various Spanish missions, and the state capitol.
Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds is in Spring Ranch, Texas. The RV campground is next to the Guadalupe River, which—according to Guy, the park owner—is the campground's greatest attraction. The river runs near the property's northern and eastern sides. While not on the riverbanks, the campground is within a short walk to the edge. Guy additionally remarks that the area surrounding the RV park is "hilly" and the establishment is near highways such as Highway 281.
Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds covers an area of six acres. Much of the park is grassed, with individual RV sites segmented by roads. There are 45 RV sites, some measuring up to 97 feet long and 39 feet wide. Other sites are smaller for more "compact" vehicles. Each one has water, sewer, and 30/50 amp electric hookups. Furthermore, each RV site has a firepit and picnic table. Guy notes that most units have shade trees as well. He allows guests with a tent camper to park it next to their RV in place of an additional vehicle, otherwise they may bring another vehicle. In addition to the RV sites, Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds has 22 tent sites. These are between the RV lineup and the Guadalupe River, and most of them have fire rings and picnic tables. Finally, visitors may rent a fully furnished cabin with a queen bed, a queen pullout bed, a private bathroom, and a fully equipped kitchen with utensils and linens.
Out-of-unit amenities include a building with laundry machines, a store with staple materials, sewer connections, and "things that people tend to forget" on a trip, as mentioned by Guy. An additional building with a meeting room is used for small gatherings and can fit about 40 people. This building can be used by visitors who reserve it ahead of time.
Guy says the Guadalupe River is the RV park's main attraction. Guests of Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds can access the river at multiple points near the park and can use it for fishing, swimming, canoeing, and kayaking. Guy mentions that the campground offers canoe and kayak rentals and notes that the river is slow-running, even "lazy river speed." Other attractions within an hour of Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds include SeaWorld San Antonio, the state capital, Guadalupe River State Park, and Fiesta Texas, which Guy says is "a Six Flags-type park," or in other words, similar to an amusement park. Guests may also visit various Spanish missions throughout the nearby Texas area or the Alamo. Finally, Guy mentions the city of Fredericksburg, which is home to many wineries. Regarding places to eat, he suggests people visit any of the nearby restaurants that serve seafood or Mexican dishes. He further says that a number of fast food options are relatively close.
Guy, the owner of Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds, wants to allow his visitors to "enjoy themselves and relax" while staying at his property. He does this by trying to create a family-friendly environment and interacting with his guests if time allows. Some of the park's reviewers have commented on the proximity to the river and the quality of its facilities. One such visitor said, "There is plenty of riverfront property to walk on and fish from. There are cows to watch in the pasture, and donkeys too. The little store has just about everything we would need including ice and wood. They can do onsite repairs and even have some nice affordable storage."
Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds has a few policies in place for visitors to follow. While pets are allowed, the campground only allows two dogs per site, and dogs must be leashed outside their designated sites. Vehicles must not exceed the five-mile-per-hour speed limit, and Guy says that "long-timers" are asked to leave a deposit to ensure no cigarette butts are left on the ground. Wristbands are provided to guests so they may be identified as visitors of Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds by law enforcement in case of an emergency.
The RV park is open year-round, with its busiest season lasting from spring through summer. Guy explains that the demographics of visitors are more family-oriented, and a majority is "Texas traffic," although the campground occasionally receives transient visitors. According to Guy, some of these people are from foreign countries who rented an RV and traveled from state to state to explore the United States. However, he presumes that the Guadalupe River remains the most prominent reason people visit Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds. The majority of its guests learn about the park through word of mouth or the Internet. Guy mentions that he and the staff strive to maintain a connection with the people who have stayed at the RV park and help them feel part of a "positive family atmosphere." He also notes that the property has no guest requirements; rather, "[they] treat people like people."
Guadalupe River RV Park & Campgrounds was established as an RV park and campground in 2004. However, the property initially functioned as a farming ranch until Guy Anderson, the current owner, decided to convert it as an investment on his retirement. His family has owned the parcel for about 150 years, and several of his family members operate it with him. They built everything during the conversion process until the RV park was completed. Aside from adding 20 more RV sites, Guy says he has no significant plans for his property.
Guy feels that owning an RV park is a "reasonably decent occupation" for someone his age and at his point in life. He notes that "it's something you do," although he enjoys meeting people and getting to know people from different parts of the country or the world.
