Pets are allowed, but owners are asked to clean up after their animals and keep them leashed or enclosed outside. Attractions near Gil's RV Korral consist of OC Fisher Lake, Fort Concho National Historic Landmark, Brown's Park and Pool, LLC, and several dining locations.

About

Gil's RV Korral is an RV park located roughly between Grape Creek and the outskirts of San Angelo, Texas, near U.S. Highway 87. The campground can be reached by exiting said highway and driving east a few hundred feet on Grape Creek Road before turning right. Gil's RV Korral offers 14 rental sites. The manager, Megan, states that four sites have picnic tables that anyone on the property can access. Additionally, some spaces have covers over them to provide shade, as Megan says the property has little natural shade. More covers are anticipated to be added to other sites to offer the same benefit. Other amenities include office Wi-Fi, a laundromat open 24/7, and a store that sells fabric softener and laundry detergent. Furthermore, there is space in the back parking lots for work trucks, given that many short-term visitors stay at the campground during their nearby employment. Megan adds that RV maintenance can be offered on the spot and that management is at Gil's RV Korral 24 hours a day.

Gil's RV Korral is a roughly rectangular plot of land. Its RV sites are arranged along three sides, and the space is mostly open as there are few trees. The surrounding lots are similar in appearance and layout. Gil's RV Korral is also on the edge of San Angelo which Megan says contributes to the park's relatively quiet atmosphere.

A few attractions near Gil's RV Korral include OC Fisher Lake, Fort Concho National Historic Landmark, and Brown's Park and Pool, LLC, all of which are found in San Angelo. Additionally, several restaurants and dining locations are in the area. Megan recommends guests visit Nacho's Restaurant Cantina & Grill, Cielo, and Ban Moon.

Culture

Megan, manager of Gil's RV Korral, says she wants park guests to feel at home and comfortable. She wants them to feel they can address management if they have questions or concerns. To help encourage this behavior, Megan says she "makes [her] rounds" around the park to interact with visitors and answer their questions. She recounts that she has given people rides to the dentist and has offered help with other tasks, explaining, "I try to be there if I can." As such, Megan affirms that she interacts with guests on a daily basis, especially if she is in the office while someone is getting their mail. One former visitor's review appears to echo Megan's remarks by saying, "[This is a] family-friendly, nice, and quiet place to park your RV and relax. The owner and manager are very personable and helpful when it comes to all your needs."

Regarding campground policies, Gil's RV Korral allows pets. However, they must be leashed or in an enclosure when outside, and owners should clean up after their animals. Moreover, quiet time begins at about 10:00 p.m. and ends at 8:00 a.m. Finally, Megan remarks that park management encourages any RVs over ten years old to be inspected before staying at Gil's RV Korral, as she recalls encountering many maintenance issues with older RVs.

Gil's RV Korral is open year-round, and Megan explains that the park's best season is from May to September because of traveling visitors and rodeo season. While most tenants are long-term guests, Megan says many short-term patrons are retirees or people working in the area. She adds that Gil's RV Korral is mainly a passing-through point rather than a destination for said short-term occupants. Megan affirms that various repeat guests appear at the park yearly.

History

Gil's RV Korral was built several years ago by Gil Jolley. The current ownership took over in June 2022 when Robert Lindley, a friend of Megan and Shane Manitzas, purchased the property from Gil's wife, Verda. Megan recounts that Robert owned a dent shop and would visit San Angelo to work with Shane. He typically stayed at Gil's RV Korral during such trips and saw that the park was being sold one day as a "fluke accident." Upon purchasing Gil's RV Korral, Robert offered Megan and Shane a place to stay in exchange for their help managing the park. Since beginning her management job, Megan has enjoyed the relatively quiet atmosphere and the visitors' company, saying, "Everyone's been really nice." Megan is also happy that she can try new things, explaining that every day at work is a learning experience that provides unique opportunities.

When Robert purchased Gil's RV Korral, a "storm cellar" was located in the park; Megan explains that the cellar is actually a school bus inside a large hole in the ground. The campground has seen various changes since Robert took over, such as price changes and new amenities, including RV covers and laundromat items for sale. Megan adds that Robert plans to expand certain spaces, add more RV covers and showers, and perhaps add an area for children to play.
