Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination

Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination

The Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination is located in Myers Flat, California. The area is predominantly mountainous and filled with forests, of particular note the redwoods that northern California is famous for having. The RV park is one of the most impactful businesses in the town, due to the fact that Myers Flat is incredibly small.

About

The number of permanent residents in Myers Flat is a notably small 146 (according to the 2010 census). Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination makes up a decent proportion of the town's area, sporting 17 acres of land with 5 cabins and 49 RV sites. The location of the campground puts it just off of Highway 101 and Highway 254, which is otherwise known as the Avenue of the Giants. The Avenue of the Giants is famous for its views of the Coast Redwoods of the area and, in particular, a stretch of road where drivers are able to drive through part of a massive hollowed-out redwood tree. It is a scenic highway that runs through Humboldt Redwoods State Park, and many of the visitors to Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination are in the area to take advantage of the close proximity to the sought-after highway. Another natural feature of the area that is of interest is the South Fork Eel River to which the campground rests nearby. Guests frequently swim in the river or participate in other activities such as fishing or kayaking. Each of the 49 RV sites at Giant Redwoods comes equipped with 20/30/50 AMP electric hookups, water hookups, a picnic table, and a fire pit. Most of the sites have sewage hookups, and there are a variety of pull-through sites and back-in sites. Giant Redwoods also has a few big rig sites that can accommodate vehicles of up to 100ft long. The five cabins on-site have queen beds, bunk beds, flat-screen TVs, electric fireplaces, microwaves, coffee pots, table sets, air conditioning, a deck, fire pits, and picnic tables. The cabins are designed to be "glamping" variants, meaning that they do not come equipped with running water. The campground has notably good WiFi connections for those seeking to do work away from the office. Other features of Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination include coin-operated laundry machines, volleyball, tetherball, horseshoe pits, croquet, badminton, a playground for small children, a fenced-in dog park, and an outdoor movie theater that shows family-friendly movies every Saturday night. Giant Redwoods also has a store on-site that sells novelty items such as t-shirts and caps, as well as more essential supplies like firewood and ice. Beer, wine, ice cream, and other snacks are also available. Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination is open year-round, though they are most busy in the summer.

Culture

Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination attempts to emulate a culture of relaxation, and—as current manager, Vickie puts it—"a nice vibe." The staff has the goal to make each visitor to the RV park feel comfortable. Vickie also states that they try to market toward a more "upper-end" crowd, attempting to avoid those who would cause disturbances in the campground. Cleanliness and friendliness are essential desired traits for Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination. Guests have commented that the surrounding area is a little "sketchy," though when people enter the RV park, they are pleased with what they see. "The drive to the campground from the turnoff was unsettling. Kind of like rural ghetto. The campground itself was nice. Surrounded by hills and trees. Bathrooms were updated and clean." The small population of the area is likely a cause for this alarm. The seclusion of the property, however, is generally viewed as a positive aspect of the experience, especially in the context of camping. One guest wrote, "I enjoyed my stay here. My tent site had a nice view of the river. Lots of trees on the property and a path down to the beach where you can swim. Well maintained park, clean bathrooms and showers, very nice and friendly staff." Another feature of the area that is of note would be the mild weather that Myers Flat experiences. While other locations in California can reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer, Myers Flat typically hovers around the mid-80s. Giant Redwoods RV & Cabin Destination also tries to bring its guests together and provide wholesome activities for families. Each Saturday night, they put on outdoor movies, and people can buy concessions to accompany it.
