Elwha RV Park and Campground

Located in the Northwestern United States, Elwha RV Park and Campground occupies 18 acres of land in Port Angeles, Washington. Visitors are given the option to choose between three different types of rentals, which are as follows: cabins, RV spaces, and tent sites. Two particularly notable features that can be found on the premises are a hydroponic greenhouse that grows organic produce and a gift shop that sells basic camping supplies, such as firewood. The grounds of the property are additionally characterized by walking trails that extend from the campground, some of which lead directly to the Olympic National Forest—a prominent attraction in the area. Many people also tend to be drawn to the local events that are hosted annually.

About

Elwha RV Park and Campground can be found in the northwestern region of Washington. The property currently offers 4 rental cabins, 50 RV spaces, and several tent sites. A number of other buildings and facilities are established on the premises, namely an office building, gift shop, clubhouse, and restrooms. The park itself is relatively forested and centrally located among numerous nature-oriented attractions.

Every cabin rental at Elwha RV Park and Campground is equipped with a full kitchen, some of which are arranged in a "kitchenette-style," as mentioned by a manager, Sierra. She further explains that one of the cabins resembles a "studio apartment space," while another is more similar to a cabin in its appearance. Up to 12 people can be accommodated in one of the rental cabins. All four of the units supply linens, and it should be noted that outdoor private spaces with firepits and a BBQ area are included with each rental cabin. As for the RV sites, each one varies in its provided services, as some have full hookups, and others only offer water and electricity. The back-in sites are equipped with 30-amp electrical service, and the pull-through spaces provide both 30- and 50-amp hookups. Fire rings and picnic tables are available for guest use at every RV site as well. A separate section on the grounds of the campground is designated for tent sites. Tent spaces range in size, and Sierra observes that the smaller ones are "better for backpackers" while the largest tent sites are "better for families."

Guests that are staying at the RV park are given access to the aforementioned clubhouse, which offers coin-operated laundry machines, a full kitchen, and a TV lounge. Visitors should be aware that the showers in the restroom facilities are also coin-operated. With regard to the gift shop at Elwha RV Park, a considerable collection of camp-related items are for sale, such as firewood, sweatshirts, hats, pantry items, and soap. Artwork that was created by local artists is additionally sold at the gift shop.

One of the most unique characteristics of Elwha RV Park and Campground is the property's hydroponic greenhouse that cultivates organic produce. According to Sierra, this greenhouse was constructed by a local craftsman. The campground contains other outdoor features on the premises, including a gazebo, a wood-fired bread oven, walking trails that lead from the property, and numerous heart-shaped rocks, which Sierra mentions they try to collect. A few games are provided on-site for patrons as well, including basketball, horseshoes, and cornhole.

Olympic National Park is regarded as one of the most prominent attractions near Elwha RV Park and Campground. Tourists also attend the outdoor sporting events that take place nearby, namely biking events or boat races. Sierra says that local events are held throughout the year, such as the Lavender Festival and October Fest. The surrounding locality also comprises a few restaurants that are found within a relatively short distance from the campground. For those who are searching for nearby dining options, Sierra recommends Sabai Thai, The 929 - A Woodfired Grill, Kokopelli Grill, and Next Door Gastropub.

Culture

Sierra, a manager of Elwha RV Park and Campground, remarks that Dave and Chris Delano, the current owners, strive to help their guests feel "very welcomed, like family." As a reflection of this, a sign is placed in the check-in area which reads, "Welcome to the drama-free zone." Sierra explains that as a manager, she wants visitors to feel "like they have a little piece of home here" at the campground. In an effort to provide this experience, the property's management team tries to keep in touch with their visitors after their stay at the campground by sending follow-up messages, which intend to allow people to express their experience at the RV park. Sierra says that the management team makes an effort to "give [patrons] personalized care, in terms of figuring out what kind of concierge service [they] can offer [guests] when they check in." The staff frequently interacts with those who are staying at the RV park, and Sierra remarks that the management team enjoys sharing their knowledge of the area with people.

Visitors who have previously stayed at Elwha RV Park and Campground have commented on the "quiet atmosphere" of the establishment, according to Sierra. She explains that many people request to stay in the more privately located sites. One former patron mentioned this particular aspect of the park's atmosphere in a review, saying, "[The property] was quiet and easy enough to navigate." Others have commented on the landscape that encompasses the campground. Sierra describes the establishment as a "boutique RV park," meaning it has a "balance of providing amenities while still being surrounded by nature."

Occasionally, the owners and management team of Elwha RV Park and Campground host events for their visitors. Sierra notes that they sometimes host "pizza nights," where they cook pizzas using the property's wood-fired bread oven. Live music is typically performed during this community event as well. At times, the RV park receives groups who are hoping to orchestrate their own events or activities, in which case, the property's management team assists them in arranging their plans.

A few policies are implemented at Elwha RV Park and Campground, most of which encourage visitors to "be conscious of [their] neighbors," as stated by Sierra. In an attempt to further create a quieter environment at the campground, quiet hours begin at 9:00 p.m. every night. Moreover, Sierra says that the owners and management team of the property "care about kids' safety," and therefore, they try to "tailor where [they] put kids in the park," taking into consideration if their site is near higher traffic areas. Sierra states that smoking is permitted "as long as it doesn't disturb other guests." Pets are welcome to accompany visitors during their stay.

Elwha RV Park and Campground is open year-round for people to reserve any of the cabins, tent sites, or RV spaces. According to Sierra, the busiest time of year for the RV park tends to take place from mid-May to September. She believes that this is seemingly due to the fact that people often have time off of work to travel more during the summer season. Generally speaking, these months are also less rainy compared to other seasons.

History

Dave and Chris Delano, the current owners of Elwha RV Park and Campground, have owned and operated the property since 2015. However, prior to them gaining ownership, a fairly notable event took place in 2012, which involved the removal of an old hydroelectric dam on the Elwha River adjacent to the campground. This allowed the river to "return to its natural state," according to Sierra, a manager of Elwha RV Park and Campground.

The present owners of the business were led into the lodging industry when they had the desire to try something new and to own a property that their family could operate together. Dave and Chris both had previous experience in hospitality before owning Elwha RV Park and Campground. Since Dave and Chris became the owners of the property, Elwha RV Park and Campground has undergone extensive renovations. Many of the rental buildings were added to the premises, as well as the office building and hydroponic greenhouse. The owners also renovated the store, updated the gazebo area, and renovated the bathrooms. A security gate was additionally added to the site to create a safer environment and "for ease of access," Sierra says. Concerning future plans, Sierra mentions that the owners are hoping to undertake "expansion projects." She further explains that they are planning on hosting more events to "offer more experiences for people."

Sierra remarks that she enjoys several different aspects of being a manager of Elwha RV Park and Campground, as she states, "I enjoy managing, I love our team, and I get a lot of learning opportunities." Similarly, the owners "enjoy being part of outdoor hospitality," Sierra comments.
