Duck Creek Campground

Currently under the ownership of Kristi and Denny Endres, Duck Creek Campground is located on the outskirts of Pardeeville in the South Central region of Wisconsin. During the property's season of operation from April to October, guests can reserve one of the 8 cabins or 136 RV sites. The lodging accommodations are divided into two of the following classifications: rustic cabins and deluxe cabins. Regardless of which type of cabin patrons choose to stay in, they are given access to nearly the same amenities, as a microwave, refrigerator, TV, and other standard appliances are provided in every cabin. Apart from the accommodations, Duck Creek Campground additionally has an on-site restaurant and bar, a wide range of outdoor activities, and a store that sells camping supplies.

About

Duck Creek Campground occupies 47 acres of land in Pardeeville, Wisconsin. The property currently has a total of eight lodging accommodations, four of which are designated as rustic cabins, with the other four being deluxe cabins. While both types of rentals generally offer the same amenities, the main distinction between the two is that the deluxe cabins are equipped with running water and bathrooms—two amenities that the rustic cabins do not include. Each type of unit also varies in terms of the provided bed sizes, as the rustic cabins sleep up to four occupants and the deluxe cabins can sleep a maximum of eight people. The rustic cabins feature one full-size bed and two bunk beds, in contrast to the deluxe cabins which contain one queen bed, one full-size bed, a bunk bed, and a trundle bed. Aside from the previously noted variations, every accommodation is supplied with a refrigerator, a microwave, a TV, air conditioning/heating, and a grill outside.

In addition to the cabins, Duck Creek Campground has 136 RV sites available for reservation. Many of these sites are designated as overnight sites, providing water and electric hookups, while others are for seasonal stays, offering water, electric, and sewer services. The electric hookups at every site are equipped with 30-, 50-, and 110-amp services.

Beyond the available accommodations that visitors can reserve, the grounds of Duck Creek Campground also comprise a restaurant with a bar, a main office building with a store, and several on-site activities for guests to utilize. Such activities include horseshoes, a gaga ball pit, a dog park, a swimming pond, a playground, a basketball court, and a sand pit for volleyball. With regard to the meals that are served at the Du Duck Inn Grill & Bar, this on-site dining option has a selection of burgers, pizzas, desserts, appetizers, and kids' menu items available for purchase. The bar features a variety of blended drinks, and the restaurant frequently offers specials on certain days of the week. This restaurant is open to the general public as well. As for the store, some of the merchandise that one can expect to find are grocery items, apparel, ice cream, coffee, and fishing supplies, to name a few.

A considerable portion of the acreage as a whole is constituted by wetlands, which visitors are welcome to explore along a nature trail that winds throughout the property and leads to the adjacent Duck Creek. A fair amount of fish is found in the nearby bodies of water, as Duck Creek Campground is found in relatively close proximity to the Wisconsin River and a few lakes where people have engaged in kayaking and other aquatic recreation in the area.

Outside the boundaries of the campground, a number of attractions can be found in the vicinity. Kristi Endres, one of the owners of Duck Creek Campground, suggests that their patrons visit Wisconsin's Amish community, where a few bakeries and stores are established. She also mentions that the city of Madison is located about a 30-minute drive away from the property, and Milwaukee—one of Wisconsin's most prominent cities—is over an hour's drive from the campground. For those who enjoy outdoor recreation, several bluffs characterize the area's topography which tourists can explore on some of the hiking trails. Concerning where to eat, Kristi's first and foremost recommendation is the Du Duck Inn Grill & Bar, followed by Caddy Shack, Thee Upper Crust Pizzeria, and The Dump.

Culture

Kristi and Denny Endres—the owners of Duck Creek Campground—have the goal of helping their guests feel "like it's home" at the establishment. Kristi notes that several previous visitors have expressed to them that those who are staying in the seasonal sites have been inviting towards them. The owners also hope that the amenities and activities that are available on-site will contribute to the homey atmosphere that they strive to create at Duck Creek Campground, as guests can utilize these resources at their leisure. Kristi and Denny interact with their patrons fairly often, and Kristi remarks that she makes an effort to suggest some of the nearby attractions and restaurants that people may enjoy. Moreover, in a further attempt to foster a community-oriented atmosphere, the campground periodically serves as the setting for small events and gatherings, such as raffles, live music, and fundraisers.

Du Duck Inn Bar & Restaurant is a characteristic of the property that Kristi considers to be one of the most unique aspects of the campground. One former camper mentioned the restaurant, as well as other elements of the establishment, in the following review: "Duck Creek Campground has large spacious and level sites, with plenty of power. Swimming was great in the large pond. There is also a well-stocked store and restaurant for those 'I don't want to cook' nights."

Out of consideration for the safety of everyone who stays at Duck Creek Campground, the owners enforce policies that all visitors must abide by over the course of their stay. As a considerable number of young children stay at the campground, Kristi puts an emphasis on the speed limit, which everyone is expected to obey when driving on the premises. It should be noted as well that golf carts are prohibited on-site. Duck Creek Campground is a pet-friendly establishment, and Kristi mentions that pets are even encouraged to visit the property. Lastly, guests must refrain from smoking inside any of the buildings on the grounds, as smoking is solely permitted outdoors.

Duck Creek Campground is open seasonally from mid-April to mid-October. During the time of operation, Kristi observes that the busiest months tend to be June, July, and August due to school being closed for the season. The demographic of those who stay at the campground is not categorized into one primary component, as Kristi says that they "receive a mix of everything." The owners frequently see repeat guests who return each year as well.

History

In 1970, Duck Creek Campground was originally owned by the Karasek family, who developed the property into a campground. The Karaseks initially purchased the acreage to own it as a private residence; however, after having invited many friends to stay with them on several occasions, the Karaseks decided to convert the site into a lodging establishment. It wasn't until 2017 that the present owners of the business, Kristi and Denny Endres, bought the property. Kristi worked as a hairdresser for 39 years prior to becoming an owner of Duck Creek Campground, while her husband, Denny, worked as a cook at his brother's bar. According to Kristi, she and Denny were drawn to the family-oriented atmosphere that the previous owners created at Duck Creek Campground, thus, leading them to purchase the business when it was for sale. The owners have discovered that their favorite part of their job is "being around people." Kristi remarks, "All of our clientele are just like family to us."

Duck Creek Campground has undergone a few changes over the course of its history. The power system was updated throughout the park, and several facilities were added or renovated. Kristi notes that a "she-shed" was added where they do crafts and other similar activities. Another shed was added, though this one is used primarily for maintenance and storage, as it includes a walk-in freezer. There had formerly been a large game room at the campground, but Kristi explains that they reduced its size and even utilized some of its excess space to expand the dining room. Furthermore, the playground that is presently found on the grounds is a recently added feature as well. Kristi says that in terms of future plans, she and Denny have the goal to replace the rustic cabins and trailer rentals with deluxe cabins in an effort to offer comparatively higher-quality accommodations for future guests.
