Double Nickel Campground

Double Nickel Campground

Double Nickel Campground is located south of a town called Waco, Nebraska, which is a small town that sits on the eastern half of York County. Within the surrounding area, one can find many different farmlands, as well as mixed forests and plains. The city of Waco was named after another city—also called Waco—which is located in Texas and was the hometown of one of the original settlers. Originally the property had over one hundred acres of land that was owned by the same family, but over the years, some portions of the land have been bought out, leaving the actual property line with about 20 acres in total that belongs to Double Nickel Campground.

About

Double Nickel Campground sits on 20-acres of land and offers several amenities to its guests. Amenities include a pool, playground, mini-golf, volleyball courts, pinball arcade, and more. The park is connected with Wi-Fi, which runs all throughout the property, and gives internet access to the visitors wherever they may find themselves. Double Nickel Campground is also near a nine-hole golf course, which was land that used to be part of the campground that was sold to create the course. The golf course is within walking distance of the campground and offers golfers the chance to spend some of the time of their day going out golfing if they would like.

Each RV site comes equipped with water, sewage, and electric stations that can be hooked up to RVs. Between all of the sites, there are some with 20 amp stations, some with 30 amp stations, and some with 50 amp stations, depending on which ones are needed by guests. Fire pits, picnic tables, and porch swings can also be found at each location. Double Nickel has a total of 39 RV sites, one cabin, and three tent sites available for renting by guests. These spots are open seasonally, starting from April 1st and going on until October 25th. Each RV site is a pull-through, allowing greater ease of access to park patrons. The cabin site features a small fridge, microwave, sink, full bathroom, and air conditioning. The campground requires that guests bring their own bedding, with a two-night minimum required for weekend reservations. Laundry services are provided at the campsite with a two-dollar fee attached to both the washing and drying of clothes. The property also has a store on its location, which sells soft drinks, treats, souvenirs, and RV supplies.

Another notable feature regarding Double Nickel Campground is that it is under ten minutes away from the closest city, which is the town of Waco, and not much longer to the next town to the west, called York. A few miles to the East, patrons can find Smith Creek Recreation Area, a place that is known for being a potential fishing spot.

Culture

Double Nickel Campground strives for a family-friendly culture with an emphasis on providing a leisurely stay to their out-of-state travelers. Regarding this goal, on their website is the following explanation: "We strive for an environment that is safe, beautiful, relaxing, clean, and fun for both travelers spending the night or families spending the weekend." Jeff Stoy, a part-owner, mentions that the property is a "destination with Nebraska," giving a resort-like feel to the guests that are camping. Visitors have referred to the campground's amenities as something worthwhile, as well as having consistent access to the owners who live on-site. One guest who had stayed here recently left a review that says, "The staff was super friendly, the campground was clean, sites were beautiful with fire pits and porch swings, not to mention all the fun things to do." Several other reviews about Double Nickel Campground make mention of how clean the showers and restrooms are and their relatively easy accessibility.

Near the city of Waco is Wessels, a living history farm that offers hands-on learning with activities such as shelling corn, feeding their animals, and gathering eggs. The Double Nickel Campground is located south of Waco, meaning that it is out of the town and offers isolation from city life.

History

The Stoy family purchased Double Nickel Campground about seven years ago, back in 2014. The property has gone through several changes, having been a restaurant and a gas station at one point. The park became a campground in the late 1960s that was under the ownership of a campground franchise named Safari. Safari went bankrupt in the late 70s, and the property was sold. Initially, the land that made up the property was a grand total of 120-acres; however, Double Nickel has sold off most of its land to several different locations, one such location being Sandy Meadows Golf Course.

Jeff Stoy entered the industry after having obtained a background in IT and decided that he wanted to change occupations. Jeff and his wife, Amanda, currently live on the property full-time with their two sons, which means they are more accessible by customers who may have questions and concerns.
