Culture

While staying at Dexter Shores RV Park, the staff strive to help guests enjoy their stay and feel taken care of. The community gathers together on large holidays and celebrates with a pot luck meal where people can bring food and share it among other residents and visitors. Often these events are held at the clubhouse or the fire pit and picnic area. The property's demographic is primarily long-term residents with a few visitors staying on a daily or weekly basis. The establishment sees a mix of older couples, small families, young couples, and family gatherings, allowing for a family-friendly atmosphere on the establishment. To help keep the atmosphere, guests and residents are asked to be quieter between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. Pets are supposed to be on a leash except when in the pet area in the park. Smoking is not allowed in any of the public buildings, and staff asks that those staying on the property respect one another.

The Dexter Shores RV Park has become known as a "prime destination" for camping by the lake, according to its owners. Just across the street, guests and residents often visit the lake for various activities such as fishing, boating, kayaking, and canoeing. They are also known for their staff and service, often trying to check in with guests at the beginning and end of the stay to see if needs were met and striving to be available if guests have questions about the area and park. One of management's specific goals includes helping patrons "to feel like family." Many comments from visitors often talk of the lake and facilities. One visitor mentioned, "A good RV park and the staff I've met here are friendly. It's well kept, well maintained, and tidy. There's a clubhouse to play pool or board games, there's a mini library, exercise equipment coloring pages for kids and adults. On top of all this, it's nestled next to a lake and surrounded by the kind of nature you'd expect in Oregon."

The property is open year-round to residents and the public and has often found the busiest time of year between May and September. During that time, many visitors come for the lake and surrounding national forest and state park in the area. March and April are often times when long-term residents may move in or away from the park.

History

Dexter Shore RV Park was established in the 1950s by a family. It stayed in said family for about fifty years, and over time amenities were added to the park. About 20 years ago, the park was purchased by Shepard Investments, and they continued to run the park. Shepard Investments added even more sites to the property and continued to add more amenities and renovate the existing amenities to help guests enjoy their stay at the park. Over the years, the park has received many repeat visitors, and many of the residents staying at the property have learned about it by word of mouth. The owners strive to continue improving the park and making it a place they hope families can enjoy and hope they feel safe and relaxed during their stay.
