Deuces Wild Campground

Deuces Wild Campground comprises 13 acres of land in Waynoka, Oklahoma. Currently under the ownership of Greg and Sharon, the business offers RV camping and tent camping in one of the property's 70 sites as well as a stay in one of the 3 mobile homes or 2 cabins. A particularly significant draw for tourism in the area is Little Sahara State Park, and some visitors who stay at Deuces Wild Campground bring an ATV to ride on the sand dunes at the park. The campground also hosts a few holiday-themed events to add to guests' experience, namely a Halloween celebration, and an Easter party, among other festivities.

About

Located in northwestern Oklahoma, Deuces Wild Campground occupies a total of 13 acres in a residential portion of Waynoka. The establishment has 70 RV sites for reservation, nearly 85% of which are equipped with full hookups, while the remainder solely provide electric and water services. The electrical hookups offer 20-, 30-, or 50-amp services, depending on the site. Firepits and picnic tables are available for patrons to utilize as well. A mix of pull-through and back-in spaces constitute the RV sites, with a mix of gravel and grass plots. It should be noted that tent camping is available on the sites. In addition to these spaces, three mobile homes and two cabins are on the premises for visitors to occupy. Greg, one of the owners of Deuces Wild Campground, describes the cabins' design as similar to that of a standard hotel room. Each cabin comprises a bathroom, bathtub, bedrooms, and refrigerator. As for the mobile homes, every unit features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a kitchen.

With regard to some of the amenities that are located on the premises, the campground has a store, a bathroom facility with a coin-operated shower, and a barn that often serves as an event center. The on-site store primarily sells souvenir items, including T-shirts, caps, and flags, among other items. Residential streets encompass the vicinity of Deuces Wild Campground, and several trees are found along the edges of the property as well. Greg remarks that many of those who stay at the establishment are visiting the area to ride their ATVs at Little Sahara State Park, an attraction that is in fairly close proximity to the campground. He also mentions that there is a sand trail that leads from the business to the dunes at Little Sahara State Park.

Aside from the nearby state park, visitors can travel about eight to ten miles from Deuces Wild Campground to some caverns that tend to pique the interest of tourists. Moreover, Greg mentions that Glass Mountain is relatively close to the property and receives a fair amount of outdoor enthusiasts who hope to explore the natural areas of northwestern Oklahoma. As for dining options, Greg suggests that guests go to Little Sahara Pizzeria. There is also a nearby grocery store that sells food.

Culture

The aforementioned event center at Deuces Wild Campground is a particularly notable element of the property that Greg and Sharon, the present owners, take pride in. One of the most popular celebrations that is held at the barn is a Halloween-themed event called Spooktacular. Other holiday gatherings include a cornhole game and an Easter egg hunt. The owners intend to maintain a family-oriented atmosphere at the campground, with an emphasis on safety. "We want our guests to have a good time, enjoy riding their ATVs, and be safe," Greg expresses. In an effort to provide this experience, Greg explains that if children are not wearing a helmet or going too fast, he and Sharon try to encourage them to abide by safety guidelines. One person who previously stayed at the establishment commented on the camp hosts' hospitality in a review, saying, "The owners keep the park very clean and are helpful."

A few policies are implemented at Deuces Wild Campground that everyone should be aware of over the course of their stay. While the campground is pet-friendly, Greg and Sharon ask that pet owners pick up after their dogs and keep them leashed on the grounds. The camp hosts also ask that pet owners refrain from leaving their dogs outside their RVs when they leave the property. Quiet hours are enforced every night starting at 10:00 p.m., during which ATV riders are expected to arrive and depart at a slower pace to avoid disturbing other guests. Oftentimes, a water wagon makes its rounds throughout the campground and sprays water to keep the dust from rising when ATVs pass through. Finally, everyone must abide by the 10-mile-per-hour speed limit when driving on the property.

Deuces Wild Campground is open year-round for people to reserve a site, cabin, or mobile home. Spring break is commonly considered the busiest season of operation for Deuces Wild Campground, and Greg notes that they receive several people who are traveling from Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Missouri. Concerning the demographic of those who stay at the property, Greg says, "We get everything." It generally ranges from elderly folks with their grandkids to groups of young adults who plan on riding their ATVs on the sand dunes. Greg says that a considerable fraction of their patrons are repeat guests, many of whom have been visiting the campground since they were kids.

History

Greg and Sharon, the current owners of Deuces Wild Campground, are the original owners of the property. Established in 2007, Greg and Sharon were led to purchase the campground after having traveled to the area from Kansas City several times to experience the sand dunes. The two determined that it would be easier for them to live in Waynoka, so they purchased Deuces Wild Campground. Prior to when Greg and Sharon became the camp hosts, the acreage formerly consisted of pasture land. Numerous updates and changes were made to the property throughout its history. It began with 19 sites, and many more were added over time. Greg and Sharon also added the restroom facility in place of porta-potties. Furthermore, the two cabins and three mobile homes were constructed with the intent to provide more accommodation options for visitors. Greg says that since becoming one of the camp hosts, he has found that his favorite part of the job is the celebrations that are held at the on-site event center.
