Delight’s Hot Springs Resort is located in Tepoca, California, which is a city near the border shared between Nevada and California. Tepoca is near the boundaries of Death Valley National Park and is a little over an hour's drive away from Las Vegas, Nevada. Patrons can reserve one of the twenty-one units year-round, with their choice of stay being in a motel room, RV, RV space, cabin, or tent area. The business has four individual bathhouses as well as a pool, a shower, and a changing area. Wi-Fi and televisions are absent from the property in an effort to help guests unplug and enjoy their natural surroundings. Many of the units are pet-friendly upon request and with additional charges, but the five places that cannot accommodate pets are units nine, ten, eleven, twenty, and twenty-one. Smoking is prohibited unless done in one of the designated areas outside.
Delight’s Hot Springs Resort has a total of 21 units, which are spread out across 40 acres of land. A few of these units are found in different buildings that are unique in design to other buildings on the property. Among the spaces that can be reserved are cabins, motel rooms, RVs, RV sites, and tent camping areas. Tent camping is unavailable in the summer months for guest safety, as this season tends to have the highest temperatures of the year.
According to the manager, the most popular units that are reserved by patrons are the on-site cabins. The cabins are equipped with a kitchenette, refrigerator, outdoor patio, coffee machine, and private bathroom. Some of these cabins are equipped to accommodate up to two guests per stay, while others can accommodate three or four. Additionally, there is a group cabin that can accommodate up to six people at once.
Due to how rural the location is, the manager mentions that the stars tend to be much easier to see on clear nights. For that reason, a few telescopes have been mounted throughout the property, though the manager explains that people “don’t really even need them.”
The hot springs water can be found on the property, allowing patrons to swim and rest in the water without having to leave the property. However, due to the abundance of hot spring water, there is no fresh water, so patrons will need to bring their own water for cooking and drinking. The manager notes that the mineral water can be ingested, but it may cause stomach discomfort. Furthermore, the manager also says that this explains why there are very few trees on the property, saying, "The excessive minerals in the water are not healthy for the trees, so the business is trying to feed them with fresh water in an effort to have more shade across the grounds."
Delight’s Hot Springs Resort is found in a more rural area of the desert and is also close to the southern portion of Death Valley National Park. According to the manager, the closest town is about 30 minutes away. In the same area as the resort, one can find Tecopa Brewing Company, which is a barbecue restaurant that serves craft beers. In Shoshone, a town to the north, there is a historical museum that details the societies that lived in the area long ago. China Ranch is an old mine where people can spend time and learn about the mining history and the immigrant settlers that first came to the area.
In the summer, the temperatures regularly average over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and the water from the hot springs can reach as high as 135 degrees Fahrenheit, making them too hot for tourists to use. However, the swimming pool is typically heated to about 95 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing visitors to have a place to swim if they arrive when the hot springs are too hot. Because of the temperature difference, the winter tends to be the busiest season of operation.
Patrons are asked to abide by several policies while they are staying at the resort. Children under the age of 12 are not allowed at Delight’s Hot Springs Resort. The business is pet friendly, with only five units that are to remain pet-free. Pets that are on the grounds must be leashed, and their owners must clean up after them. Smoking is prohibited inside the buildings, but it can be done in designated areas outside. Between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., noise should be kept to a minimum on the property, especially around the pools.
There have been many visitors who have made reservations over the years. One person who recently stayed at Delight’s Hot Springs Resort wrote, “The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxing. Everything was clean and well thought out. The little cabin was perfect. The choices of spas and the pool were great. Temperatures ranged from hot to just right.” The business is open year-round, with only their tent camping area closing down during the summer.
Delight’s Hot Springs Resort first opened sometime in the 1960s. The current owners are also the original owners of the business, having purchased the land from a man who was referred to as Delights.
One unique historical fact about the property is that during the COVID-19 epidemic, one of the leaders of Inyo County asked the owners to remain open as a place for people who were traveling through the area. This request helped the company, though the business did make a few modifications to abide by the safety regulations.
The manager of Delight’s Hot Springs Resort explains that the business is “constantly rebuilding, renovating, and adding on” to the already existing amenities and features. While she is not aware of any specific plans for the future, she mentions that there is typically something the owner has in mind that he would like to improve.
