The RV Park is open year-round and hosts events such as crab boils and barbeque cookoffs.

About

The Cove RV Park, located in Brinnon Washington, is minutes from many hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities. The property is between the base of the Olympic National Park and Jackson Cove, which sits on the Hood Canal. The Hood Canal is also known as a fjord, which is a deep inlet of the sea that is generally between high cliffs. Nearby the grounds are many different outdoor activities, with the canal, national park, mountains, forests, and waterfalls within minutes. At the edge of the park is the Marple Creek with a trail that runs along the side of it that guests can walk or ride bikes on. There are many trees and animals that are native to the area that can be found while staying at the RV park, and there is an elk herd that lives nearby.

On the grounds of the Cove RV Park, there are 27 sites that guests can stay at, including a tent site and a camper van site. All the other available spaces are for RVs and include full hookups of water, sewage, and garbage; each site comes with either 30 or 50 amp hookups as well. The owners hope to provide a comfortable experience for all who stay on the property, and as such, all the sites have recently had new gravel put in. The sites are spread out on the 2.5 acres of the grounds, in the hopes that guests can have a more peaceful environment during their stay.

Other amenities that can be found at the Cove RV Park include a 'country store' that sells a various array of items. The owners try and provide diverse items in the store that both those who are staying on the grounds, as well as local people in the area, might need. The store sells items such as gifts, small grocery items, camping supplies, and other various objects. Also on the property is a laundry room that has two washer and dryer sets that are coin-operated. In the same building as the laundry room is a large bathroom area that has showers. The showers and bathrooms are free for guests of the property to use. In addition to the trail by the creek, there is also a basketball hoop in the middle of the park that guests can use, as well as what the owner calls "loaner bicycles" that patrons can use for free on the grounds of the RV park.

Nearby the building with the laundry and bathrooms is a gazebo that visitors can use for events. In the summertime, the owners recommend that guests reserve the gazebo to ensure that there are not two groups trying to use it at the same time. Reserving the gazebo is free for guests.

Culture

The area around the Cove RV Park is densely wooded, being near the Olympic National Park. Due to the nature present, many activities in the area revolve around the outdoors. Some of the most popular hikes in the Olympic National Park include the Sol Duc Falls Trail, the Quinault Rain Forest Nature Trail, and the High Divide Trail. Many trails in the national park are backpacking trails that are over 10 miles long. The High Divide Trail is 19 miles and is only accessible through the Sol Duc Falls trail. The national park is roughly 1,442 square miles, and there are many different areas of the park including beach areas, rainforest trails, and mountains.

Other activities that visitors to the area generally partake in include clamming, crabbing, shrimping, and fishing. All of the water activities mainly take place on the Hood Canal, nearby the grounds of the RV park. At the end of the road the Cove RV park resides on, there is a boat launching area that guests and other visitors in the area can use to get into the cove and canal. Some nearby restaurants that the owners recommend to guests include the Geoduck Restaurant and Lounge, the Hama Hama Oyster Saloon, and the Gearhead Deli.

In the future, the owners of the Cove RV Park plan on hosting events that help those visiting the area get a taste of what life in Brinnon is like. They plan on hosting events such as crab catching competitions, crab boils, and barbequing competitions. The location of the RV park is in a very diverse outdoor area, and the owners hope to celebrate that by helping visitors to the area participate in various outdoor ventures.

Those who stay at the Cove RV Park often comment that the park is a "hidden gem" in the area and that it was in a great location for various things in the area. One guest said "Beautiful and peaceful surroundings here. The park is well maintained; staff and owners are very friendly and accommodating." Another who visited mentioned that it is "a small RV park with spacious lots, bikes for use, as well as a basketball hoop and balls. There is a small trail down to a waterfall. They have a store with everything you need."

While staying at the Cove RV Park, the owners have policies in place to keep the park functioning as a family-friendly environment. Smoking is allowed in the open-air areas of the park, but there is no smoking allowed in the gazebo area or inside the store or laundry facility building. The owners expect that those who choose to smoke on the grounds throw away their cigarette buds responsibly, to protect the environment and keep the park clean. Pets are allowed at the park, but they are required to be kept on a leash at all times. Additionally, quiet hours are from 10 PM to 9 AM every day.

The motto of the Cove RV Park is " the coziest little campground on the canal." The owners hope that those who stay at the park feel comfortable and are able to relax and have fun during their stay. The park is open year-round, and the busiest season is generally from April to September.

History

The owners of the Cove RV Park, Dan and Summer Venture, recently purchased the property in late 2021. Although the park is under new management, the grounds have been functioning as an RV park and campground since 1930. Not long ago, the park went through renovations including updates to the sites such as adding new gravel and repaving the parking area of the property. In the future, Dan and Summer hope to add a coffee stand or another type of food service on the grounds in order to help guests not need to travel to get food. They also plan on adding more to the country store for locals to be able to get more goods from the business as well. The Cove RV Park also recently went digital and now is able to offer online booking to patrons.

The town of Brinnon Washington has a long history in the area as well. Originally settled by a man named Elwell P. Brinnon, the area was known for being a contributor to the logging industry at the time, around the 1850s. The wife of Elwell Brinnon was a Native American princess who raised two children while she was helping to settle the land that is today the town of Brinnon. Originally, Elwell came to the area to claim the area on the river, as a good source of food and other commodities, and then others followed and helped settle the land.
