Country Acres Campground

Located in the northeastern region of Ohio, Country Acres Campground occupies 41 acres of land. Presently under the ownership of Anthony, the campground is situated on the outskirts of Ravenna in a rural and wooded setting. Visitors can experience daily, weekly, or monthly stays in one of the campground's RV sites, tent spaces, or cabins. A particularly unique feature of the premises is the five-acre lake where people can engage in fishing. The campground also has an on-site store that sells basic camping supplies and snacks. Beyond the premises, people can visit some of Ohio's prominent cities, namely Akron, Cleveland, and Youngstown. For those who take an interest in outdoor recreation, Cuyahoga Valley National Park and West Branch State Park are in relatively close proximity to the campground.

A mix of tent and RV spaces constitute the property's total of over 200 sites that are available for patrons to occupy, of which there are 16 cabin rentals. The campground also provides a variety of amenities for RV and camping sites, including fire pits, picnic tables, and concrete patios. For those staying in the cabins, there are different options available, ranging from simple sleeping cabins to two-bedroom park models with full kitchens and baths. All cabins are air-conditioned and equipped with TVs, DVD players, coffee pots, microwaves, and refrigerators.

In addition to the accommodations, Country Acres Campground offers numerous facilities and activities. The property features a swimming pool, kiddie pool, splash pad, jumping pillow, obstacle course, inflatable slides, paddle boats, paddle carts, and even golf carts available for rent. Guests can also enjoy the game room, which includes air hockey, crane games, and other arcade games. Moreover, there is a dog park on-site, as well as shower houses and coin-operated laundry facilities.

Outdoors enthusiasts can take advantage of the fishing docks and enjoy catch-and-release fishing in the on-site lake, which spans five acres. The lake can provide catch-and-release fishing opportunities for bass, bluegill, and other fish species. The campground encompasses a fairly vast property of 41 acres, with space for various recreational activities such as baseball, basketball, and Gaga pit. Additionally, Country Acres Campground features a store where visitors can find a wide range of items, including groceries, snacks, camping supplies, and novelties. The store offers convenience items, namely ketchup, mustard, can openers, and pie irons, among other items.

In terms of nearby dining options, the owner of Country Acres Campground, Anthony, recommends Castaway Craig's, Covered Bridge CafĂ©, and Roby Lee's as his top choices for guests seeking local restaurants. Furthermore, the surrounding area offers several attractions that former patrons of the campground have frequented in the past. These include the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is also a relatively popular attraction in the vicinity of the campground, offering opportunities for outdoor exploration.

Anthony believes that the establishment benefits from its location, as it is situated within close proximity to Canton, which is an approximate 45-minute drive away. The campground is centrally located, providing access to major cities, such as Akron, Cleveland, and Youngstown. This accessibility can allow guests to explore a variety of attractions, cultural events, and entertainment options in the encompassing region.

Culture

Country Acres Campground offers a range of events and activities, such as live entertainment, DJ performances, magician shows, nature experiences with reptiles and other animals, kids' crafts, bingo, golf cart and bike parades, and wagon tram rides. These activities primarily take place on the weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The owner, Anthony, strives to create a memorable and inclusive experience for guests, with the intent to "help them feel like a part of the family." He tries to take the time to learn the names of their visitors and engage in friendly conversations in an effort to make them feel recognized and valued. Anthony also strives to preserve the natural landscape of the area by avoiding cutting down trees when adding new campsites or rentals. One former patron commented on the natural aspect of the grounds and the amenities in a review, saying, "The cabins were amazing, very clean, and just reminded you of that woods feeling. Great fire pit outside to cook on and close to the playground for the little ones as well."

Anthony, the owner of Country Acres Campground, has the goal of creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that aims to make guests feel like they are part of a close-knit community. "[We want to] treat them as a person rather than a customer and make them feel like we are their best friend," Anthony remarks. The owner and staff make an effort to cultivate an environment that promotes friendliness and a sense of belonging. Regarding the "diversity of people" that Anthony says visits the property, he expresses, "Black, white, Latin, gay, lesbian, straight, old, young, handicapped... everyone's included." He also notes that the diversity of his guests is his favorite aspect of his job as the owner.

The campground implements a few policies that focus on maintaining a family-oriented atmosphere. Quiet hours are enforced from 11:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., out of consideration for those who want a peaceful environment during the night. Smoking is permitted outdoors but not inside any of the buildings. For those who want to bring their pet, they are welcome to do so, provided that they keep their dog leashed at all times on the premises and clean up after them. It should also be noted that respectful behavior towards others, including pets, is highly encouraged.

The campground operates from early April to early October, with the busiest season most commonly occurring during June, July, and August—coinciding with the summer months when families are on vacation, notes Anthony. Concerning the most common demographic that the campground receives, Anthony observes that "middle income families" are the primary component of the demographic as a whole. The campground also receives a significant number of repeat visitors.

History

Country Acres Campground dates back to 1969 when it was established by Art and Laura Singleton. In its early years, Country Acres Campground began as a campground with a handful of tent sites. Over time, as the popularity of RVs grew, the campground expanded to accommodate RV enthusiasts. Anthony, the current owner, added more RV sites and equipped them with hookups and amenities to cater to the needs of modern campers. Recognizing the demand for alternative accommodation options, Anthony also introduced cabins to the campground.

As the campground expanded, so did the range of activities and features available to visitors. Throughout the years, Country Acres Campground has continuously evolved and improved its facilities and amenities. The fire pits, picnic tables, and patio sites with concrete pads were added with the intent to enhance the camping experience for guests. The modernization of the campground to meet the needs of contemporary campers and the upgrades to the electricity and facilities were made during Anthony's time as the campground host, which first began 19 years ago. Anthony has invested in landscaping and ensuring that new sites and rentals are integrated with the existing trees in an effort to preserve the natural environment.
