Columbia River RV Park

The Columbia River RV Park is named after the Columbia River, which is directly north of the property. Located in Portland, Oregon, the park contains 198 RV sites with the capability to accommodate long-term and short-term visitors. Most of the park's visitors are in the area to experience downtown Portland or the Columbia River Gorge. The RV park is owned by a company called Delta Management, which also owns another RV park in the area and a few other hospitality enterprises. The culture of the property—and to a lesser extent, the park's motto—is for guests to "experience the difference." Features such as a recreation room, two bathroom facilities, and a laundry building are available to guests of the business, in addition to the full hookups offered at each RV site.

About

Located a short distance to the south of the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon, the Columbia River RV Park is a lodging establishment with nearly 200 RV sites. The park wraps around a nearby residential area and is surrounded by a small line of trees in most directions. Downtown Portland is around a 15-minute drive to the south, which is one of the main reasons why people stay at the establishment. Another attraction that draws in many visitors annually is the Columbia River Gorge, which is roughly an hour away from the RV park.

Most of the RV sites at Columbia River RV Park are part of the "original" section of the property, though around 50 sites make up "the back loop" which features more river rock décor and has slightly more modernized amenities, namely the presence of warmers built into the water hookups that prevent them from freezing in the winter. There are a total of 198 RV sites on the premises, allowing for both long and short-term stays. It should be noted that some of the sites are back-in, while others are pull-through, the latter of which are more popular. Apart from the aforementioned slight differences, all of the sites at Columbia River share the same list of amenities, including full recreational vehicle hookups (water, sewer, electric, and cable) and Wi-Fi that runs throughout the property. The cable hookup gives visitors access to DirecTV with specific channels such as the Food Network and HBO. Additionally, there are a handful of facilities that guests may utilize during their stay. A recreation room with various types of exercise equipment can be found on the east section of the property. Two bathroom facilities and a laundry building are also available for use by patrons of the RV park. Finally, an office can be found near the property's entrance.

Much of the property's business is attributed to its central location to a variety of activities in the surrounding area. Portland itself contains an abundance of metropolitan features, including a number of attractions that draw in visitors from many parts of the country. Two specific places that contribute to the occupancy of Columbia River RV Park are the Portland International Raceway and the Portland Expo Center. Another frequent place for the park's guests to visit is the Columbia River Gorge, and in particular, Crown Point. The ocean is roughly two hours away, and while it isn't common for park patrons to make the trip, it still occurs every so often.

Some of the staff's recommendations for nearby food include Salty's on the Columbia River, Stanford's Restaurant & Bar, and Al's Thai Food around the corner. Salty's offers views of the river and a selection of seafood and buffet-style dishes. Stanford's serves classic American dishes such as steak and pizza, in addition to a range of alcoholic beverages. Finally, Al's Thai Food—which is the closest of the three to Columbia River RV Park—serves traditional Thai dishes and offers takeout, dine-in, or delivery options.

Culture

The Columbia River RV Park has a varied culture due to the fact that guests are able to opt for either short-term or long-term stays. More specifically, the establishment offers reservations of nightly, weekly, or monthly durations. For those who decide to stay on a monthly basis, there are a few additional regulations and processes that must occur. For example, the RV used for the "residence" of the guests involved must be no older than 10 years old, and the rent for the space is due on the first of every month. In this sense, many of the long-term guests are treated as tenants of a more permanent living situation, which in turn causes the overall atmosphere of the park to adopt a "community" feeling. Many of the long-term patrons are placed in a designated portion of the property, though it isn't required so there are long-term people spread throughout the park. A few residents of Columbia River RV Park have been there for over a decade.

For short-term visitors to the RV park, the only distinct regulation that is put in place is that the duration of their stay cannot exceed 45 days. "If you're going to stay that long, we need to treat you on a 'month to month' basis at that point," explains one of the property's managers. Other notable policies that apply to any type of occupant include the fact that smoking is allowed anywhere on the property and that a total of two pets may be included for each site (though no individual animal may weigh more than 50 pounds).

Generally speaking, one of the goals for the property is that guests can "experience the difference," which is an informal motto for Columbia River RV Park. To the owners of the park, this primarily entails a thorough landscaping process and a specific focus on the aesthetics of the property. One guest stated the following about the park's overall appearance and qualities: "The park is very well kept and clean. Great amenities - fenced dog area, playground, pool, rec room with ping pong and pool tables, nice bathrooms/showers, lawn games, etc. It was quiet at night and a nice mix of short and long-term guests." Something that is mentioned with relative frequency is the park's proximity to a nearby airport, the noise of which has been a bother to some guests and a positive attribute to others, depending on personal preference.

The Columbia River RV Park is open during the entirety of the year, though it often sees more visitors between May and October. The park has hosted visitors from many parts of the world, and the mix of long and short-term patrons helps show that the purposes behind staying at the property can vary extensively. There are, however, a relatively high proportion of repeat guests. Most of the new guests who visit the park discovered it by means of online searches and other electronic marketing.

History

The current owner of the Columbia River RV Park is in fact, a company named Delta Management. The business is stationed out of Vancouver, Washington, on the other side of the Columbia River. Delta Management owns a second RV park named Vancouver Mall RV Park and a few other types of properties in the hospitality industry. The park has been under Delta Management's jurisdiction since 2007.

The current day-to-day manager of Columbia River RV Park is Aly, who initially entered the lodging industry because she enjoyed a handful of aspects about it. The diversity of guests drew her in, and another of her favorite parts of the job is the fact that "there's always something new going on in the RV park."

When the establishment was first constructed, it only had 150 RV sites. Sometime in the early 2010s, an additional 48 sites were implemented into the park, bringing the total count to 198. The new section of the park became known as "the back loop" and featured river rock décor and a better heating system for the water hookups. Plans have been put into place to update the original 150 sites on the property to contain the same type of decorations, though a timeframe on the project is unknown at this time.
