Camp Kernville

Camp Kernville is an RV/mobile home park located right on the banks of the Kern River in Kernville, California. It houses roughly 100 different sites and is home to one of few locations in California where white-water river rafting is available.

About

Directly on the banks of Kern River sits Camp Kernville, an RV/mobile home park geared toward adventure and outdoor appreciation. Each site on the property is equipped with standard RV hookups, such as water, electricity, and sewage. Camp Kernville offers much in the way of rentals/retail. They have a store on-site with logo gear and essential RV supplies for the convenience of their guests. They also do RV rentals and allow guests to rent out portions of the beach, of which Camp Kernville owns 1000 feet of private shoreline. Bikes and beach games are also for rent. The campground's location makes it reasonably convenient to do a wide assortment of activities. Because it sits right next to the Kern River, attractions such as kayaking, tubing, fishing, and swimming are easily accessible. The city of Kernville is also one of very few locations to do white-water rafting in the state of California, and it is by far the most southernly-located spot for the activity in the state. Other outdoor activities nearby include mountain climbing, hiking, hunting, and mountain biking. Camp Kernville is a short walk away from the attractions of the city, seeing how it sits directly in the center of town. This lets guests experience restaurants and retail stores, even while on their outdoor ventures. Though the campground usually has tent sites available, they are in the process of removing them in order to cater specifically to RVs. Camp Kernville is open year-round, though their best season of operation is during summer months.

Culture

Camp Kernville adopts a modern approach to RV camping. They are transitioning away from tent sites and small RV sites in an effort to make more space for larger RV pads and distance between customers. This merging of smaller RV sites has caught the attention of guests, whose reviews demonstrate that they are generally pleased with the decision. The campground mostly caters to outdoorsy people, particularly families, who are in the area to experience beautiful nature and escape from normal life for a weekend or so. The central location of Camp Kernville—described by the general manager of the property Kimberly as "in the middle of town, yet nestled back in a little nook, so to speak,"—is a big selling point for the property. Visitors enjoy the range of activities that are available to them and the quick access to restaurants and retail stores in town. Camp Kernville is frequently changing things around in an effort to keep up with the RV industry. Specifically, in recent events such as COVID-19 that have struck the world with such force, the campground is seeing more guests coming for more extended periods of time to take advantage of being able to work remotely. To support these visitors, Camp Kernville has plans to implement an "RV home school" system to help out a little more. The property is only a few hours from many of California's more famous attractions, namely Los Angeles and Hollywood. In addition to all of these elements of the property, guests have also mentioned their appreciation of the cleanliness of the campground. Kernville itself is a small town in southern California, and the weather is enjoyable for a longer span of the year than most places.

History

Camp Kernville has been in operation since 1980 and has been under the same familiar ownership for the entirety of that time. Kimberly is one of the property's general managers, and her father was the person to buy the property. Years ago, he was a real estate developer. He already owned a few trailer parks, and a friend approached him and informed him about an RV park on the Kern River for sale. He decided to purchase it, mostly as an investment.
