About

Camp Bell Campground is located in Campbell, New York, east of Interstate 86. The campground is near the Finger Lakes region and has a total of 96 hospitality spots, a split between 88 RV sites, 4 camper rentals, and 4 cabins. According to Ed, the owner of the property, all RV sites have grass, picnic tables, water hookups, and firepits. Approximately 20 to 30 of them are seasonal sites, and the rest are transient units. Electrical services range in options; some spots provide 20 or 30 amps, while others offer a 30/50-amp combination. The four cabin rentals have bunk beds and double beds and are equipped with electricity. Fire rings and picnic tables are included, and additional amenities—such as refrigerators, electric heaters, or grills—can be rented for an additional fee. The cabins are also within walking distance of bathrooms and showers. TVs, refrigerators, bathrooms, kitchens, picnic tables, fire rings, and air conditioning come with the remaining four trailer rentals. Sleeping spaces are arranged with queen beds, futons in the living rooms, and bunk beds. It should be noted that trailer rental guests are required to bring their own sheets and linens.

Other amenities at Camp Bell Campground include a heated in-ground pool, bathrooms and showers, laundry machines, and a recreation hall that can be rented for activities. Ed comments that the upstairs section of the rec hall has been used to host weddings, graduation parties, and other events. Furthermore, the five-acre property has a volleyball and basketball court, horseshoe pits, a playground, a 30-by-60-foot dog park, a dump station, and rentable pavilions. Additionally, Ed says that the on-site store has "anything you can think of," including wood for the fire rings. The main office has an attached arcade room with more bathrooms and showers. It also offers discounts for a few local attractions and rentals for grills, minifridges, heaters, and fans. The outdoor fields have been used in the past for activities such as the previously mentioned weddings and graduation parties. There is also a nature trail for walking as well as a creek. Lastly, Camp Bell Campground has a library, a dunk tank, and a mini golf course.

Ed mentions a few attractions near Camp Bell Campground. One such place is the Corning Museum of Glass, a facility with over 45,000 pieces of historical and artistic glass spanning approximately 3,500 years. Other attractions include a bison farm, local wineries, Watkins Glen State Park, Glenn H. Curtis Museum, Tanglewood Nature Center, and Rockwell Museum. Visitors interested in aviation can also visit the National Soaring Museum and the Wings of Eagles Museum, the former exhibiting the "history of motorless flight". The latter features aircraft from World War II to the modern day. A few dining spots Ed recommends are Mom's Savona Diner, Champs Pizzeria, and "anywhere in Corning."

Culture

Ed, the property owner, hopes that guests feel like family when staying at Camp Bell Campground. With the intent to provide this experience, the staff makes an effort to greet and welcome visitors as they arrive at the campground. Ed also mentions that they are encouraged to ask staff if they need help with anything or have questions. Additionally, staff members occasionally visit occupants to "make sure they are comfortable" and have what they need for their stay, as mentioned by Ed. One guest gave feedback on their experience in a review, saying, "This is a family-friendly destination with multiple options for the kids. Despite lots of people, closer quarters, and stuff going on, it was still on the quiet side."

Camp Bell Campground hosts a few annual activities, such as Halloween and Christmas events, a Thanksgiving dinner, memorials, magic shows, Tanglewood performances, balloon shows, wagon rides, and paddle cart races. Ed says musicians and bands occasionally perform live music at the park. Property-wide events may also consist of family competitions such as sawing contests, log-rolling, and children's sporting events.

Regarding campground policies, Ed says smoking is not allowed inside the trailer rentals or cabins. Dogs must be leashed unless they are in the dog park, and owners are required to clean up after their pets. Finally, quiet time across the park typically begins between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

Camp Bell Campground operates from May 1st to October 15th. Ed states that the property's business season usually peaks during Memorial Day weekend, NASCAR's race week, and Fourth of July week. She adds that occupants of all ages visit the park, including various repeat guests who ask for specific sites as they return each season.

History

The current Camp Bell Campground owner, Edward, has operated the park since circa 2001. However, the campground has been around for much longer, according to the owner, Ed. Before working at Camp Bell Campground, she worked at an ice cream shop near the establishment's wagon rides. She recounts that she was doing her usual work one day when Edward asked her to work for him. Ed remarks that she has since enjoyed working at Camp Bell Campground, and her favorite part of her job is working with and meeting the visitors. Over the years, Camp Bell Campground's ownership has upgraded the playground, added new tables to the recreation hall, and purchased a foam cannon for events. Ed says that she is unaware of any plans for the near future, but she anticipates that the campground will see more upgrades before too long.
