Blue Top Resort & Campground

Blue Top Resort & Campground

Blue Top Resort & Campground is an RV resort on the southern shore of Partridge Lake in Fremont, Wisconsin. The park has 76 RV campsites, of which 35 are seasonal units. Six cabins are also offered to visitors, and they range in size from one- to four-bedroom cottages that can occupy two to eleven people, depending on the size. Additional resort features include a swimming and fishing pond, a channel connected to Partridge Lake, a basketball court, horseshoe pits, a volleyball court, and a walking bridge crossing the channel. Blue Top Resort & Campground also offers boat and kayak rentals for both guests and the public. According to Reid, one of the owners, the park's main attraction is Partridge Lake, where people can fish, boat, or swim. Wolf River, connected to Partridge Lake, is another fishing spot. Guests can catch white bass, perch, bluegill, smallmouth bass, and walleye at the lake and river.

About

Blue Top Resort & Campground is an RV campground in Fremont, Wisconsin on the southern shore of Partridge Lake. The 11.5-acre property is mainly surrounded by open land or similar establishments and within driving distance of other small towns.

Blue Top Resort & Campground has 76 RV sites, divided into 35 seasonal and 41 transient units. Of the 35 seasonal sites, 8 have 30-amp electrical service with water but no sewer. Another 19 RV spots offer 20-amp service with no water. Additionally, each RV unit includes a fire pit and a picnic table. All other accommodations are full-service, and Reid, a park co-owner, explains that Sites 21 and 22 are likely the most popular because they are right on the edge of Partridge Lake.

In addition to the RV sites, Blue Top Resort & Campground has six cottages. Cabin 3 has one bedroom and can accommodate four guests; Cabins 2 and 4 have two bedrooms and can sleep four people; Cabins 1 and 5 have three bedrooms for seven occupants; and Cabin 6 has four bedrooms with a maximum occupancy of eleven. According to Reid, all cottages have full bathrooms, kitchens, TV, barbecue grills, and outdoor seating. Cabin 6, the largest cottage, has a small garage space and a driveway.

Additional amenities at Blue Top Resort & Campground include park-wide Wi-Fi, food trucks, and live music on the Fourth of July and Labor Day. The resort has boat and kayak rentals for park occupants and the public. Other features include a basketball court, a volleyball court, horseshoe pits, a swimming and fishing pond, and a walking bridge crossing the on-site channel with "moss-covered shingles." The channel is connected to Partridge Lake, while the pond is separate.

Reid says Partridge Lake and the nearby Wolf River are primarily fishing destinations during early spring, typically until the end of May. He adds that fishermen primarily catch white bass at the lake, though people can also catch perch, bluegill, catfish, smallmouth bass, walleye, and crappie in both locations. Partridge Lake becomes a family vacation site from June onward. Other points of interest are the new Fremont Community Center and the various small towns surrounding Blue Top Resort & Campground, which Reid says have many restaurants and antique shops. He continues, describing Fremont as "more of a seasonal town," with most of its activity occurring during the summer. Reid mentions nearby Wisconsin cheese factories, golf courses, and a zoo for people to visit. He concludes with restaurant recommendations, suggesting that guests visit Gala Resort & Campground Inc, The Hotel Fremont, and The Nauti Turtle.

Culture

Reid, a Blue Top Resort & Campground co-owner, describes his property as a "very family-friendly park" where people can feel safe. He also describes it as a quiet location, observing that guests naturally quiet down at around 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. each night after a day of activities. Reid remarks that he believes this atmosphere is because of "personal correspondence over the phone [where] we can steer people in the right direction of what to expect." He adds that interacting and socializing with visitors helps encourage a family-friendly atmosphere at the resort. Finally, a golden retriever named Doc can be found throughout Blue Top Resort & Campground, and Reid explains that Doc likes to visit the RV sites or whoever calls his name.

Aside from a year's-end bonfire and the food trucks and music—the latter two of which happen during July 4th and Labor Day—Reid says Blue Top Resort & Campground does not host many activities. He explains that most of his guests are occupied fishing or exploring the area, and, being both an owner and a worker, it is difficult for him to put activities on the campground's agenda.

As mentioned, Reid believes interacting with visitors is important to maintaining his property's culture. Several guest reviews also highlight the park's cleanliness, with one former guest saying, "The facilities and the view are amazing! We spent a very good time walking by the lake, but the best part is the staff!" Another person wrote, "[This is a] super nice and unique campground right on the lake. [I'm not] from around here, but [I] instantly felt part of the community! Super affordable rentals and the kayaks are a load of fun!"

In conjunction with these and other reviews, Reid believes Blue Top Resort & Campground is unique for providing "some of the best sunsets around the lake." He also notes that the property's "mature trees" and the "[unique layout] where people have space." Furthermore, Reid acknowledges the nearby swimming pond and wind-protected channel as part of the campground's uniqueness, concluding that "people just feel like it's a little piece of paradise."

Blue Top Resort & Campground has several policies for guests to follow. Quiet time begins each night at 11:00 p.m., and people must not exceed the five-mile-per-hour speed limit while driving. Additionally, only children 16 years or older can drive golf carts unless accompanied by an adult. Reid adds that visitors should know boating and fishing regulations before entering Partridge Lake, and fish cannot be cleaned in the park's cabins. Instead, people can clean their fish at a nearby fish-cleaning house. Motors, gasoline, and pets are not allowed inside the cottages either. However, RV guests can bring their dogs, though they are expected to leash and clean up after their dogs.

Blue Top Resort & Campground is open from May 1st until Halloween, October 31st. Reid explains that the resort's busiest time is from May to August, especially during May. This is because of an influx of fishermen during May, although Reid says that the start of June marks the switch to a "family vacation park." As such, most of his occupants are fishermen or families. Reid recalls that approximately 85% of business comes from yearly returning guests.

History

According to Reid Raschke, co-owner of Blue Top Resort & Campground, the campground was built around 1953. He explains that the resort was named after two nearby blue houses atop a hill. Reid and his wife, Alecia, have operated the park since April 2019. They bought it from Ron and Deb Gramer, who purchased it from Ron's parents in 1988. Ron's father had previously acquired the property from his brother in 1969.

Reid recalls that owning a resort was always a dream of his. He and Alecia wanted a house near the water, so Reid searched for properties near Partridge Lake. He came across Blue Top Resort & Campground and volunteered to work there on weekends for free. Reid explains that he intended to "get a feel for the lifestyle" and learn about operating an RV campground. After working weekends at Blue Top Resort & Campground for a few months, Reid was approached by one of the owners, who offered to sell him the property within the following year. Reid says he enjoys his job, and his favorite part is working outside and interacting with his guests.

Since acquiring Blue Top Resort & Campground, Reid and Alecia have updated the cottages and fully remodeled one. They have added a new seawall and new pontoon boats. Additionally, they raised the channel bridge and implemented food trucks and live music on July 4th and Labor Day. Moving forward, they would like to add more seasonal RV sites and perform maintenance throughout the resort as needed.
