At the Blue Clouds Resort, guests can reserve any of the 50 RV sites, 3 cabins, the camping cabin, and The Lodge. All cabins have covered decks and vary in size and the number of people they can accommodate. Amenities differ with each unit type, ranging from RV sites with full hookups to fully furnished cabins. The property offers two bathhouses, fire pits, a playground, and picnic tables for patrons to use. Reservations are available throughout the year, with the summer being the busiest season for the resort. Mary and Jerry operate the business throughout the year; however, the establishment is owned by Paul Minton and David Dill. The land comprising the resort is located on the side of an Ozark mountain, relatively close to Greers Ferry Lake. Jerry remarks that Greers Ferry Lake is popular among guests who enjoy water activities such as fishing. The lake is approximately 40,000 acres and has 562 miles of shoreline.
Blue Clouds Resort is located in Edgemont, Arkansas. Guests have the option to reserve any of the 50 RV sites, 3 cabins, The Lodge, the camping cabin, or several park-owned campers. The three cabins sleep up to four people, while The Lodge can sleep up to ten. Cabins come with a loft, a queen size bed, and access to Dish TV.
In The Lodge, there are a total of three bedrooms and couches that function as pull-out beds. Other areas in The Lodge include two bathrooms, a washer and dryer, a full-size kitchen, and an outside covered deck. Across the street from the resort’s restroom and laundry facilities is where the camping cabin is located. In regard to the RV sites, they all offer full hookups, including water, sewer, and 20-, 30-, and 50-amp electric hookups. The RV sites are generally about 20 feet from each other, which the managers say provides “good space” for visitors. Some accommodations are relatively close to the lake and offer views of the water. One of the more popular sites is the Gulf Stream, which features a covered deck, a queen bed, bunk beds, and two slides.
The managers describe the Blue Clouds Resort as being "located on the side of a mountain," specifically the Ozarks, which is about half a mile from the lake. Overall, the park is comprised of about 17 acres of land. Extending from the campground are multiple walking trails that lead to nearby waterfalls behind the property. There is a pond at the resort that used to be stocked with koi fish. Features on the premises include a playground and what the managers describe as various "rock formations." There are also paved roads that lead to the park, which gradually transition to gravel roads. Blue Clouds Resort is located near two highway 16 exits, which facilitates access to the property, according to the managers. One of the managers describes the landscape of the campground, as a whole, to be “well-maintained.” Wildlife is known to wander through the Blue Clouds Resort. Animals that have been spotted on the premises include raccoons, deer, cats, squirrels, red foxes, and coyotes.
Throughout the property, various amenities are supplied for patron use, such as picnic tables and fire pits. The campground provides Wi-Fi; however, they are currently in the process of extending their Wi-Fi capabilities to encompass the whole premises rather than specific areas. Shared facilities include a washer and dryer area and two bathhouse areas, one of which has a tankless water heater. There is no store at the resort, though the establishment does keep a few items in stock for guests who may have forgotten something for their RVs.
The management of the property hopes that guests who stay at the Blue Clouds Resort “feel like family” during their stay. Some ways that they try to accomplish this is by helping visitors get their RVs and campers set up and leveled, assisting them with finding the entrance to the park during the night and having cameras designated for safety purposes. Since the addition of the cameras, Jerry and Mary, the managers, report that they have had fewer safety concerns from patrons. In a further effort to help guests feel safe at the resort, Mary and Jerry have implemented a system to warn visitors when occasional storms come through, and they additionally provide a tornado shelter in case of such an emergency. Another unique aspect of the property is the "blessing box," which Mary describes as a place where people can put extra supplies such as coffee and cans of food that others can take when needed. Currently, Blue Clouds Resort does not host events, but some events they hope to host in the future include music festivals and bringing in local church leaders to do a Sunday service.
Blue Clouds Resort expects all guests to clean up after themselves throughout the duration of their stay and abide by some of the guidelines that are enforced at the establishment. One particular policy that should be noted is that pets are to be kept on a leash at all times. Furthermore, guests must refrain from smoking inside the park-owned buildings and campers. During weekdays, quiet hours last from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. each night; however, these quiet hours begin later at midnight on weekends. Guests should also be aware that the use of fire is occasionally banned in the area due to environmental conditions.
Edgemont, Arkansas, has various attractions that tend to draw visitors to the area, as reported by the managers. Such sites include Fairfield Bay, which is four miles from the resort, and Greers Ferry Lake boat launch, located three miles away. Other activities include Bass Pro fishing tournaments and exploring the vendors that come to the area. Music festivals are held every weekend during the summer as well. The nearby Greers Ferry Lake has 562 miles of shoreline, according to Jerry, which offers multiple access points for water activities such as fishing. One of the main attractions is Sugarloaf Mountain, which the managers say is near the resort. Mary and Jerry remark that Robin's Nest, Janssen’s Lakefront Restaurant, Lake Town Grill, The Boars BBQ Restaurant, and Bentley's are their top recommendations for restaurants that they suggest to their guests. Although, they also say there are a variety of dining options that range from pizzerias to Mexican restaurants.
The establishment hosts a relatively large amount of contractors, which led them to offer discounts specifically for contractors who stay at the park. Veterans and senior citizens also receive discounts during their stay at the Blue Clouds Resort. Mary and Jerry report that the business is commonly known among contractors since they "work really well with them." The managers say that the "safety and quiet nature of the park" is what they are also known for. One review of the property that was left by a former patron stated, “It is a quiet and nice place to be. I had a huge deck with a view of the lake and was able to walk down often with my dog. There are a number of nice cabins and RV spots of all sizes.” Common demographics of visitors to come to the campground include retirees, families, and young couples. Guests can come to the park any time of the year since it is open year-round. The busiest season for the resort starts in April and continues through the end of October. This time is the busiest due to the fishing available in the area.
Blue Clouds Resort was established about 28 years ago. The original owner of the park is known to visit and stay at the park. The current owners, Paul Minton and David Dill, have owned the property as partners for the past five years. Mary and Jerry, the current park managers, have been at the business for the past four years. The couple was led to manage the resort after they both retired from their respective careers. Initially, Mary and Jerry bought a camper to travel the United States, but eventually entered the lodging industry and settled as managers at the Blue Clouds Resort. Overall, the couple enjoys interacting with the guests and tenants, as well as being able to enjoy the surrounding “beauty” of the land, as Mary describes it.
Some of the changes that the establishment has undergone since the owners took over include adding new bathhouses, general maintenance to the sites, changing how they do housekeeping, and putting in coin-operated laundry machines. The current owners renovated the cabins shortly after they bought the RV Park as well. The managers also added a pathway that leads to waterfalls within the area. As for future plans, it is anticipated that more tent sites are to be added to the grassy area of the property as well as a dog park and a miniature golf course. The business may also build a larger bathhouse and stock the pond with koi fish again.
