Birdsville Riverside RV & Cabins

Birdsville Riverside RV & Cabins

Located in Smithland, Kentucky, and bordering the Ohio River is Birdsville River RV Park and Cabins. Situated in a seemingly rural area, the campground offers visitors sixty nine sites, with around half of them being on the edge of the Ohio River. Generally, each of the RV sites offers guests full hookups to their RV, shade, and a fire pit. Other amenities are available on the campground that the whole campground community may use, some of which include a horseshoe pit, basketball court, and playground. After the property was purchased by the current owners, Kimberly and Keith Kipling, renovations and maintenance were completed on the grounds and each individual RV site. Kimberly and Keith strive to make their property a place where visitors can come to relax.

About

Located around the edge of the Ohio River in Gilbertsville, Kentucky is Birdsville River RV Park and Cabins. The campground has many sites, with around thirty four of them located directly on the edge of the Ohio River and the other thirty-five being located nearby. Each of the RV sites has full hookups, which includes thirty or fifty amp electricity, water, and sewage. The owners of the campground, Kimberly and Keith Kipling, provide showers and bathrooms free of charge to those who are staying overnight at the campground. Additionally, there is a main office located on the premises of Birdsville River RV Park and Cabins.

Kimberly and Keith also offer amenities to patrons that the whole campground may use. There are two boat docks and piers, which may be used for both fishing and loading kayaks or canoes onto the Ohio River. Canoes and kayaks are not provided by the campground, so a guest must bring their own. As well, if a visitor would like to fish off of the pier, they must provide their own equipment and bait. Next to one of the piers and boat dock is a community horseshoe pit and community fireplace. On the opposite side of the campground, a playground and basketball court are also available. There is also a hammocking area with campground-provided hammocks, which is also only open to the patrons.

Birdsville River RV Park and Cabins is located on thirty acres of land. Much of the property is made up of grass areas with trees spread out throughout the property and many being near the RV sites. Each of the individual sites for the RVs and the roads of the property are made of gravel.

Culture

There are policies that Kimberly and Keith would like patrons to follow during their stay at Birdsville River RV Park and Cabins. It is requested that pets are to be kept on their leash at all times and that any waste from the pets is to be cleaned up immediately. Quiet hours of the campground have been set to begin at 10:30 PM and end at 7:00 AM. Additionally, smoking is allowed, but it must be done only at the campsite of each individual visitor, and people must pick up after themselves. No cigarettes are allowed to be thrown into the campfire.

According to Kimberly, many guests come to relax at the Birdsville River RV Park and Cabins. In hopes to help their guests relax and enjoy their stay, a few services are provided. When people arrive at the property and check-in, Kimberly or Keith will take the visitors to their site and help them park their RV. Firewood and ice are offered at the campground, and guests can call the main office and have the requested items brought down to them. At the beginning of each morning, Kimberly and Keith will go around the campground and pick up trash from each of the sites.

Previous patrons have left reviews about Birdsville River RV Park and Campground. One past visitor, speaking about the overall atmosphere of the campground, said that it was a “great campground with sites right on the river. Often the loudest thing around was the bugs. Occasionally a car going by or a dog barking may be heard, but that's about it. Plenty of barges to watch going up and down the river.” Another past guest of the property, speaking about their stay, said, “the grounds are well maintained. Each of the spots was easy to pull or back into, with them being right on the bank of the river. Sites had full hookups for a reasonable price. It was peaceful and quiet."

Some of the attractions that guests may visit during their stay may include but are not limited to visiting Mantle Rock, and going to the land Between the Lakes. Additionally, there are a few establishments to eat at near the campground, some of them being Popi’s, Cheddars, and Cattis Settlement.

History

Birdsville River RV Park and Cabins came into operation two years ago. Previously the property was a campground and RV park but later went out of business and stopped being maintained. When Kimberly and Keith bought the campground, they upgraded all of the electrical equipment. Additionally, the image of the property had work put into it through the graveling of each of the RV sites and the cleaning and maintenance of the grounds. Currently, there are no future plans for the property.

Kimberly and Keith became interested in owning the property as they were looking for a home on a body of water. They are originally from Florida, and then they moved to Colorado. Later they found the campground and appreciated that it had thirty acres and was located on the Ohio River, so they purchased it. According to Kimberly, some of the things that they enjoy most about being owners of the property are “getting to meet new people and getting to work outside.”
