Big Bear Shores RV Resort is located in Fawnskin, California, next to Bear Lake, from which the property gets its name. There are a total of 170 spaces on the property; however, the number of spaces available for guests varies with each season, but at least 30 are usually open for reservation. One unique aspect of the resort is that each RV spot is individually owned. As such, every site comes equipped with full RV hookups and varying amenities depending on the space that is reserved. An important policy the resort enforces is that all RV’s that visit the property must be over 26 feet long. The resort is open year-round and, in addition to being close to Big Bear Lake and offering lake access, is also close to two local ski resorts which operate through the winter.
On the shores of Big Bear Lake in Fawnskin, California, is the Big Bear Shores RV Resort. The property consists of 170 spaces that can be rented by guests, depending on the time of year. Each space at the resort is owned by a private owner and is managed by the park, meaning that the owners decide when the spots they own can be rented out. At any given time, about 30 spaces are available to reserve. Each space comes with full RV hookups and a variety of extra amenities based on which spot is rented, such as covered picnic tables or barbeques.
As the park’s name suggests, one of the main attractions of the property is its close proximity to Big Bear Lake. Every road connecting the units on the property is paved along with the spaces themselves. Many of the sites have trees, bushes, and grass separating them from the other sites. Other sites have decks with tables and chairs that guests are free to use. A large majority of the sites have brick retaining walls that further section off each unit from each other. Some sites even have various carved wood statues, mostly of bears, that guests can walk around and view during their stay.
Throughout the property, there are some common areas that guests are able to use. Close to the front of the resort is the sales and rental office, where people who stay at the resort check in, and where there is also a small shop with snacks and RV supplies that can be bought. Near the main office is the pool and spa, which operate throughout the spring, summer, and fall months for those who wish to use them. Coin-operated laundry is also available. For those seeking more active experiences, the resort has a basketball court, a volleyball court, and a tennis court. Additionally, there are two private lake access points that are only available to guests on the premises. Small watercraft can be launched from the lake access points such as kayaks or paddleboards for use on the lake.
When asked about what she wants guests to feel when they stay at the resort, Grace, the manager, says she wants them to feel calm, and like they can relax. The staff help guests to find that relaxation by giving them a gift bag as they get settled into their spot and making sure that they are taken care of throughout their stay. Grace likes the summer months, especially because they are the most fun months to work at the resort, in her opinion. The resort is usually busiest during the summer months; however, it is open year-round. One unique feature of the resort is its close proximity to two ski resorts that are about a ten-minute drive away from the property, namely the Snow Summit Ski Resort and the Bear Mountain Ski Resort. The ski resorts are popular with some people who visit the resort during the wintertime and are desiring to ski or snowboard.
There are a variety of activities that guests can do around the Big Bear Lake area. One of the most unique activities offered locally is taking a ride on the local Big Bear Pirate Ship, which provides a tour of the lake on a large boat resembling a pirate ship. The tour involves a variety of pirate captains and live entertainment as the boat highlights some of the most notable places around the lake. Another popular activity visitors can participate in on the water is fishing, which can be done at the RV resort on the private boat launches or at other places along the lake’s shoreline. Charters also run on the lake throughout the year should people desire a more guided experience.
The Big Bear Shores RV Resort has some important policies that it asks its guests to observe over the course of their stay. The most important guideline is that every patron’s RV must be at least 26 feet long. As each spot has been constructed to work best with larger RVs, the resort wishes to cater to people who may be turned away at other RV parks due to the size of their motorhome. Many of the sites allow pets, with a maximum of two pets per RV. The resort also has a quiet time that it enforces from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
Guests have left a variety of positive reviews of the resort. One guest commented that “the lots are spacious and quiet. They have the individual character of their owners,” with regards to each lot being privately owned. Other reviews mention the cleanliness of the property and the attitudes of the staff that live at the resort. “The people living there full time were very polite and nice,” said one guest. Many of the people who visit the resort are repeat guests and are split between older families and retired couples.
