Located northwest on the northwest side of Bandera, Texas, and less than an hour drive away from San Antonia, visitors can find the Bandera Crossing RV Resort. There are currently 42 RV sites available to the public, with another 56 to be completed in the future. The property has served as a base camp for many motorcycle enthusiasts and bikers that are looking for winding roads and a variety of views. Right next to the property, guests can spend time in or beside the Medina River. There are a number of state parks in the area like Old Tunnel State Park, Utopia City Park, and Lost Maples State Natural Area, to name a few.
With a total of 34 acres of land, Bandera Crossing Resort can be found near the edges of the Medina River. Currently, the property has 42 RV sites in total, but there are plans to add to the establishment. The owner says that once the construction is completed, the property will feature an additional 56 RV slots, five cabins, a general store, a zipline, an amphitheater, river access with the ability to rent watersport gear, and even a helicopter landing pad.
The 42 sites that are available come equipped with full hookups, including water, electric, and sewage stations. Each site has 20, 30, and 50 AMP hookup access with the electrical station. Guests have the chance to spend time on the banks of the Medina River and can swim or take kayaks and tubes into the water. Another activity that can be done in the river that visitors have done in the past would be fishing.
Branching out from the property and the Medina River, guests can find several museums and national parks. The Bandera Natural History Museum is known for housing many dinosaur fossils and allows its visitors to get their hands dirty in the sand and dig for bones in their digging station. The Frontier Times Museum is also in the vicinity, and the museum has many things on display regarding the earlier history of the city, such as Native American artifacts, fossils, arrowheads, and even the first piano that was brought to Bandera. Exploring the outdoors is another possibility for guests staying in the area. The Government Canyon State Natural Area has over 40 miles of trails, where guests can hike, camp, or spend time geocaching, among other things. Another popular place to visit would be Medina Lake. Medina Lake offers a number of things to do, including hunting, hiking, fishing, and biking.
The city of Bandera is known for calling itself the "Cowboy Capital of the World," and the owner of Bandera Crossing Resort and the owners say they do their best to embody that easy-going vibe. The owners do their best to be laid back and accommodating to everyone who shows up to the property. Bandera Crossing Resort says that they see a wide variety of guests ranging from bikers and muscle cars to minivans at the resort. Due to the fact that the property is located on the outskirts of Foley, many people visit the area to escape the city and the heat of the summer by spending time doing water activities on the Medina River.
Another byproduct of the campground's location is the fact that stargazing is more possible on the premises. The park is planning on putting in lighting that will help limit light pollution so all guests can enjoy the night. Many of the previous guests have enjoyed staying on the property for extended periods of time and mention that they have found plenty to do. One recent guest to Bandera Crossing Resort says, "Moved here from another Bandera area park and really like it. Will for sure be back next fall. Management is great to work with. Lots of big plans for this new park."
Within the area are a number of state parks and museums that allow guests the chance to get a first-hand look at the natural lay of the land and the history of this and other nearby towns. Another tourist attraction that can be found close by would be the Lost Maples Winery, which offers outdoor seating and sells a variety of flavors of red and white wine.
The Bandera Crossing Resort has been open for about a year. It first began allowing its RV sites to be rented during the month of May in 2020. The current owners of the property are a couple named Jennifer and Anthony Thomson. Jennifer and Anthony currently live in Houston and had frequented the Bandera area on several occasions while they traveled on their own trips. The twisted Sisters Scenic Byway and the Hill Country had been bringing them back for multiple years in the past. It was on one of these trips to Bandera that they decided that they wanted to buy their own property and set up their own RV Park so they, and others, could spend more time in Bandera.
